One major thing has always struck me as wrong in this movie. In Final Frontier, Kirk makes a huge deal about the fact that he has always known that he will die alone yet, when he dies, he is not alone. I know that a lot of people choose to interpret this as meaning that no one from TOS will be with him, but it still seems wrong to me that he should actually be with someone else when he dies.
Maybe Kirk was simply wrong about dying alone? I mean, canonically, there's no reason for him to think he's going to die alone. It's just a whimsical notion that he maintains. Outside canon, the Shatnerverse provides a serviceable explanation. Minor spoiler for Avenger:
In the Shatnerverse, what's important isn't _how_ he dies, but rather _why_ he thinks he'll die alone.
It's ironic that fans are putting more weight on this line than the writer of TFF does.
