your "TEST" movie

I use ID4 and go right to the tunnel scene, then on to the White House destruction.
Then I pop in Any Given Sunday and crank the open sequences up loud! No better test for the surround sound.

Umm...this may be the test movie for the near future for me..though SPEED RACER, on Blu-ray was too..I just noticed that ID4 is out on Blu-ray so I will get it and let you know..

Ironman is out now also...so maybe that will be too...

The launching of the Saturn V in Apollo 13.

Ooooh.... nice touch! That movie has an excellent soundtrack to go along with the film's regular sound effects. Film score is also an interesting way to test a new system. That's one reason why I chose "Gladiator". Pure, musical testosterone!!

The score, the effects, the representation of the launch itself. All awesome ways to test a home theater system.

To be honest it will probably be the first one or hand or the last one I watched as it is the most recent in my memory. Though that said Revenge of the Siths is a good one for the opening battle (detail) and the vivid colours used later in the film.

I've noticed for many years that, when attempting to show in a commercial how great an image looks on a new TV, advertisers will use stock footage from oldBSG of a viper/cylon battle. It still happens occasionally even today, but it used to be the standard.

Well, we have had all our 'toys' for a while now. But when Transformers came out we tested it on our 52" HDTv with surround sound. THAT was Great! :bolian: Unfortunately our surround sound speakers are shot :( --not from that---so it is sad now to watch movies:guffaw:

I don't have Transformers yet but I bet it would be cool on my DLP, 80 inch projector. I only break it out for special occasions...that might be the next one!!!

Boy, everyone's so LOUD and FLASHY with their testing.

I use the first parking-lot test of the Delorean in Back to the Future. A nice video system will show off the shine of the parking lot's asphalt and the details of the time machine circuits inside the car.

The hisses of the steam, the crack of the ice on the door, and the rumble of the engine. These are all great sounds for testing speakers.

It's all a lot simpler. Less cuts. Less computer effects. Quieter sounds. A better test, I think, than something that just blows everything to the max and doesn't let up.

True, but they do provide good test.

I've been trying to think of one with nature sounds that would work. A few times we've been watching a film or show where a bird would sound as if it were right over my shoulder.

There's a part in Episode II Attack of the Cones when they're zipping around Corruscant that a big flying bus flies overhead and makes a really deep thrum that I've only picked up right on a good audio system. Though I don't really know much abou that sort of thing.

For both VHS & DVD it was Mortal Kombat. The suround sound and music made for a great test. The first title I got on Blu Ray was 2001:ASO but I have to say that the new Paramount HD intro on Iron Man really, really rocks.

Well I haven't upgraded my A/V equipment in years - but if I did, LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring is the first disc I would slap into the player for a test drive! (Specifically the opening scenes) :techman:
