Your reaction to DSC before vs. after

Before: Cool, new Trek.
By Episode 4: Man, I wish we had had 7 years of Star Trek Shenzou as that was a more compelling premise. I wish someone would make a manga of it.

At Episode 7: Ok, this crew sorta works, telling a Dominion war story from a more intimate perspective
At Episode 9: Wow, that was awesome. They scienced and Burnhamed their way to taking out the Klingon flagship with a science vessel.

At Episode 10-13: We've hit peak trek. Why didn't they just release all these episodes at once
At Episode 14: Stop pretending like Burnham isn't getting her commission back. I don't buy the stakes. Now that they can break the cloak (and the Klingon's don't know), they should be laying waste (a la episode 9) to the scattered and unorganized fleet occupying their space. Also, would love to have a comic of the Mirror Emperor and her adventures.

At Episode 15: Noone is scared of 10 Klingon ships approaching fortified earth with cloak-breaking technology. OH, this mutuny threat is what this whole thing was about. This crew has bonded (mostly offscreen) and stands together behind Burnham and Saru. Ah... we are telling the un-DS9, of how the federation was able to keep it's utopian ideals in the face of destruction. Maybe this will be more like the Shenzou prequel I wished for.

Before...I was super excited.

Afterwards, I didn’t care if it ever saw a second season. So many problems on so many levels....it’s not just bad Star Trek...it’s bad TV. Good thing they’re playing in their own sandbox at CBS, they wouldn’t last 6 weeks on network television.

I watched the show, so that I could learn more about this universe. I was there pretty much on time for all the new episodes. When the show ended its season, I moved on. I will be there for the second season, hoping that some of the first year issues are resolved.

I believe in a strong visual continuity, for my perspective is from that of an armchair historian. I am pretty good at placing things and people in their proper historical context. So, for me, seeing some of the changes from established continuity is a disconcerting and makes me question some of the comments made by the crew. However, I can live and let go with the changes if they work with what is established in this Discovery timeline.

I look at the behind-the-scenes videos and I wish that more of that playful camederie between the performers was more present in the show. The show is overly dour.
