The only "real" format is "three letters", and that it should be unambiguos. It's nice if they refer to the words in the title, but not even hat is really a hard rule ("TOS"). "STD" fits that definition just perfectly. "DIS" fits that as well (because we're just talking about shows, not companies). "DSC" is the only one that I think doesn't really do that, because it's really only one letter (aka one typo) away from DS9 or DSN - and since that is already a little ambiguous - the only constant being "DS" - I don't want another "DSx" to confuse the situation.

Thus I'm going to stay with "DIS".

No, the format is very clear, none use ST for star trek. They only use a short version of the show name, dropping the Star Trek from it. STD does not fit as it requires the use of Star trek, which breaks format. Furthermore, all shows named after ships or stations use a shortened version of the Ship/Station name. So STD break all the format rules for naming trek has used.

DIS fits, but it is very easy to confuse with Disney, who uses DIS and DISC is used by Discovery channel.

"ST09"? "STID"?
Don't tell me "ST" isn't used in the abbreviations...

And yeah, nobody is going to be confused when talking about "DIS" on this form. And it follows closer to "NEM", "VOY", "ENT" and so on - "DSC" is really the odd one out. Nobody uses "VGR" or "NMS" or "EPR". Thats just stupid.

Movies have always used ST in the title. Shows never have. The TOS movies uses Roman Numerals, the TNG movies did not. The Kelvin movies used a 3rd format. None of tis changes the fact the shows do not use ST.

Yes, but I can see their point. They do not want something so heavily tired to something else. Every time you see the TV menu you see DIS and DISC

The official CBS abbreviation for Voyager is VGR, so DSC fits with that.

ENT is actually the odd one out here.

DSC when writing/typing, "Disco" when speaking aloud. The former is easier to type, the latter more natural to say. Same way it is with ENT and Enterprise.

ENT
DSC
TOS
TAS
TNG
DS9
VOY

TMP
TWOK
TSFS
TVH
TFF
TUC
GEN
FC
INS
NEM
ST09
STID

Discove, because I like nonsensical abbreviations and being different.

I remember it by saying "Dis cove is full of space whales."
