Your Health 2011

While nothing serious to my life, 2011 has been kind of annoying healthwise and I was wondering hows everyone else been doing in the first 4 months of our new year...

* Succesion of cold sores in a row (Feb-April), which normally indicates a compromise immune system...

* Low and behold I got a chest infection during this, which apart from making my voice sounds kinda cool in a rustic fashion, was a total pain. The infection lasted about a week though the cough/throat trouble lasted another week.

* All the coughing I did gave me joint ache in my back for a few days too, I mean at one point for several minutes I dropped to my knees unable to get up...right spaz attack from one of my muscles

* I did a thread a few days ago concering some mental/brain problem thats too hard to explain.

* I also have another harmless but long term condition but were not going there ;) and now to my current problem...

Now an old ear problem has returned where my right ear is not draining liquid properly and trapped air pressure. Not too mention a constant low level fuzzy/static sound thats annoying when am in a quiet room. I had grommets placed in my ear when I was a baby and had a short relapse of the same problem in 2008 but it went away after a week or so but my hearing has always had a slight tinnitus side effect since then but its never really bothered me.

I am going to see my G.P later today but most likely he will send me to my local hospital to see a ear specialist like in 2008. If it doesn't clear up on its own I guess I could need another operation to insert a grommet into my right ear again and I kind wish he has too TBH. Ear problems run in my family and I will end up needing a hearing aid most likely in my right ear but not for another 20-30 years probably/hopefully ;)

so thats my rant, hows everyone else :p

I'm doing poorly. Despite efforts to slow down the effects of the diabetes and high blood pressure, lack of money and a constant pressure of stress is deteriorating my health. I took my blood sugar this evening and it was 259. My blood pressure was 167.

I am in good health except for an annoying case of Tennis Elbow which I have had for over a year now and cannot get rid of.

Stop playing Tennis :p, how did you originally damage it?

Speaking of sports, I should play less golf until I lose some weight cause it hurts my back but I don't want too, dam you health

I was riding my motorbike on the motorway with a heavy electric guitar on my back, the headstock was sticking up above my helmet and creating major wind resistance forcing me to grip the handlebars very tightly so I didn't come off. After about 100 miles I stopped at the services and noticed there was a dull throb in my arm, and it never went away.

I had a cortisone shot and that helped for about 6 months, that has worn off now, it is a bit better than it was originally but still annoyingly present.

It stops me using my rowing machine, although that muscle isn't affected when I do pressups, so I am managing to work around it.

I started the year with a succession of sleep studies that resulted a diagnosis of sleep hypopnea (my breathing doesn't completely stop, as with sleep apnea, but it does slow considerably causing my pulse ox to drop). It's not incredibly bad as diagnoses, though. Instead I was hit with the laundry list of horrible things that could happen if I didn't do something about it (stroke, diabetes, heart attacks). So now I am learning to sleep with a CPAP machine blowing air up my nose while also trying to lose some weight. Again, it's minor in the grand scheme of things but seriously annoying.

My brother Jax does not believe a healthy diet and a good immune system goes hand in hand.

What a load of lying tosh...

She thinks having the cold sore virus (got either at birth through my mum or at a young child) is because I am about 3 stone over my recommended weight. She thinks thats also the reason I got a chest infection during winter where the place I worked had several staff members going through the same thing and there all slim. My ear problem is related to a problem I was BORN with. I said to her I am overweight not OBSE and this is a recent thing not a life long one plus I am 23, not a likely candidate for having a compromise immune system.

Healthy eating boosts an immune system no doubt but somehow I don't think mines collasped on me. You know if we were going to fitness tests I would probably beat most my friends who are skinny than me and get ill more than me.

btw - am cooking chicken, peas and potatoes at the moment so I hope my immune system is prepared for that horrible unhealthy stuff.

Apologies if you've already been through this -- just trying to help. Have to go, sorry this is so clipped; more later. I have the same problems and I'm worried for you.

ETA: Argh, sorry -- can't seem to link to actual results. Give it a try if you haven't already, okay, though?

This year has not been a good one for health issues and it's only May.

I have, for years now, been dealing with anemia. At first, they thought it was due to my failing thyroid, but my thyroid is now controlled with medication; it's doing fine. My anemia, however, got consistently worse. At one point, my hemoglobin was down to single digits--about 9%, when it should be 15%. So now I am on iron supplements and a high iron diet (which I HATE) until the day I die, apparently. I also had multiple "abnormal" skin growths last year--no big deal; the dermatologist just cuts it off and I'm on my way. This year, what I was told was a cyst turned out to be a tumor that went fairly deep into the back of my shoulder. The results from the lab were that it was "abnormal" but not malignant. I go back for another biopsy on Monday, where they will cut open the same spot and take a larger sample. I will have to go to plastics for that; apparently, dermatologists aren't allowed to cut that much out of you on an office visit. Plus, I have to go there myself and drive myself home afterward, as hubby doesn't want to make the long drive on a work-day. I'll admit that I'm a bit nervous about this one---perhaps simply because it's in a building I've never been to, with a doctor I've never met.

But at least the plastics doc will be able to keep the scar from being too bad. It's just now healed up from the last time; I'm not looking forward to getting it sliced open again.

My mother lost a good chunk of her right leg, and could have died, from a skin cancer tumor, back in the 70s. I know that I *will* eventually get it, but I would rather it be later rather than sooner.

Aside from my new job making me fat, I'm very healthy. My damn coworkers just need to stop bringing in donuts every day!

There was a health fair at work in February and I was a bit alarmed with my blood sugar numbers, weight, etc. I wanted to take charge of my health and adopt a healthier lifestyle and I'm really happy to say since then I've lost 20 pounds! Just by working out and limiting my calories each day and I feel great!

When it gets a bit warmer around here, I'm going to start commuting by bike to work. :techman:

I have a pronounced addiction to coffee, but I view that as a bonus. :techman: Otherwise, I have my health, and I thank God for it each and every day.

I'm fairly healthy. Now that I am no longer around kids so often I spend far fewer days sick. I wish I had the willpower to lose the rest of the weight I would need to in order to look the way I want, but I have been told I am still at a healthy enough weight for my height so it isn't a health concern.

Hey, I didn't know we even had one of those around here. The nearest one is in a bad part of time (high crime rate), but I'm sure I could get in and out of there fairly safely. Thank you, Avalon! :)

This year has been bad on the illness level.

I got a cold in January that went away by mid-February.

I had bronchitis, pneumonia, the flu, and a cold at the same time at the end of February and beginning of March.

That bout led to us finding out that I was pregnant, with twins, and I'm now seventeen weeks pregnant and my back is already feeling the pain and I'm getting "baby brain" severely.

Also, morning sickness is a bitch that just won't go away.

Went to the see my GP and he said its wax and I have some ear drops but I'm not convinced cause soon as I use drops my ear blocks up cause its not draining liquid a I told him and takes ages to go back to normal. Even then I have a constant buzzing noise in my right ear.

 says come back in few weeks if doesn't clear up.

Well health this year has been a bit up and down. Had a couple of colds and/or chest infections, one held on for about a month.

In January I had a succession of really bad nose bleeds. First one lasted about an hour and 45 minutes, then a couple of hours later it started again and bled for another hour and half, then stopped for a while and then bled for another hour, and had a 3 day hospital stay so they could keep an eye on it. 3 days after being sent home I had another nose bleed lasting for 3 hours and went back to A&E, they did blood tests and sent me home. I had a couple more shorter ones-10-30 minutes over the next week but then it stopped.

This past Thursday I went to a cardiology check up, feeling fine but they did an Echo and found a lump, or growth on my tricuspid valve, suspecting another case of endocarditis they kept me in for tests. 6 blood cultures taken over 36 hours, obs and standard blood tests. Friday evening the doctor told me that my blood test had come back clear, and having not had a temperature while I was in he was willing to say it wasn't an infection if nothing had begun to grow by Saturday. So I was sent home on Saturday on the understanding that at any time up until today there could be growth on the cultures and I could be called back in, but no call so far so hopefully it was just a waste of time. But I have to go back for a check up in 2 months time to check if the growth is still there, or growing or what.
