Muramasa is definitely my game of the year, hands down. It plays very well and it's just different from everything else I played.
Persona 4 is the game that I played this year and love. I'd retroactively slap myself for not playing it in 2008 if I could.

In 2009 the following games were released I am interested in:
Red Faction Guerrilla
Left 4 Dead 2
Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2
Civilization IV Complete Edition (own it all separately but would love having it in one slim box -- especially for reinstalls)
I've bought the first two in the last couple weeks but haven't played them yet.
I've also played Guitar Hero 5 for PS3 and Brawl for Wii for the first time.

PersonallyI think Persona 4 should count since it came out in late December and I dont know a single person who beat it before 2009Oh wow, totally forgot.

Then Persona 4 for GOTY!!
Uncharted 2 just might be the most fun I've ever had playing a game. I even watch the cutscenes. And it's amazing how the cutscenes flow with the story -- sometimes the cutscene ends and the game begins and you better be on your toes to start playing. The storyline also drives the game. When I played Grand Theft Auto IV, I thought the cutscenes brought the game to a grinding halt.
Games that came out in 2009
1. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
The storyline had some plot twists that really blew my mind. Not just blew my mind, but really blew my mind. The battle system was fun enough and I played through the game a number of times.
2. Phantasy Star Zero
I was a fan of the old Dreamcast version and found this one to be even better in alot of ways. It was quite enjoyable to be immersed in the PSO battle system again.
3. Black Sigil
The amount of random battles was nearly as bad as BOF2 from the old SNES days but the game itself was a Western love-letter to the J-RPG genre.
Games that did not come out in 2009:
1. Persona 4
The "true" ending to this made me cry and it's my favorite ending of all time -- all time. (Also one of only two VG endings that made me cry with the other being Mother 3.)Super deep characters and one of the richest storylines to ever be in a video game.
2. The World Ends with You
I'm a little disillusioned with Square-Enix these days; I think they've gotten too big of heads and maybe a little pretentious. But damn, TWEwY shows why they're the best in the business...Great music, super original everything, great graphics, fun play control...Quite awesome.
This year was pretty much dominated by RPG's for me. They usually are, but this one was even more so. I did obtain and play some games that weren't in that certain Genre but they didn't impress me an awful lot. I enjoyed the TMNT: Smash-Up game, but it was mostly the nostalgia factor that kept me going. I also got Sonic: The Black Knight as a gift and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Wii Sports Resort Island was fun, but didn't have alot of staying power.
An interesting note is that I do own a Wii but the only console game on my list was a last-gen system; the Playstation 2.

I didn't buy many new games this year. I mostly bought older games from digital distribution platforms like Steam, Impulse, ect.

I got Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 for Christmas, and they were both excellent, so I'd like to add them to the above list.
I haven't played Assassin's Creed 2 or Uncharted 2 yet. Uncharted will get a play soon from me, but I have to say that I'm not very intrested in Assassin's Creed 2. I played ACI and I was not impressed. With that said, my favorite games of 2009 are
1) InFamous
2)Batman: Arkham Asylum
3) Modern Warfare 2
Not neccessarily in that order. honorable mention goes to Street Fighter IV, Fallout 3's DLC, and Call of Duty: World at War.
