Your Game of the Year 2011

I haven't played anything like enough games to cast any sort of legitimate vote, but I remain so stoked / surprised / delighted / whatever that Deus Ex: Human Revolution wasn't an Invisible War-type suckfest that I have to vote for it regardless. :D I haven't been so absorbed by a game since DX itself.

Even though I'm a huge fan of the Uncharted series, I have to say my 2011 GOTY is definitely Skyrim.
Other games I loved this year are Uncharted 3, Arkham City and inFamous 2.

I haven't played Skyrim, but my favorite games of 2011 have been Deus Ex, Batman and The Old Republic.

Honorable mention to LA Noire because it does do some really cool things.

Also, I can't remember what I played in the beginning of the year as nothing stands out.

Skyrim.

To be fair, I haven't played too many games released this year and those that I did, I didn't have time to finish or got distracted away from (Persona 2: Innocent Sin) or barely scratched the surface (Catherine), or I probably wouldn't consider in the GOTY talk no matter how good they are (Forza 4).

I'm going to have to go with Skyrim, but there are many other games that were extremely good this year. As for the absolute best efforts, for me it's gotta be (in order):

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3
Batman: Arkham City
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Frankly I'm surprised to see so much love for Skyrim. It's definitely an improvement over Oblivion but as an RPG it's nothing we haven't seen before. I'm about 12 hours into the game and am already starting to play it only sporadically. The world just feels dead to me without any memorable characters.

I'm beginning to slowly agree with you.. too few innovations and if you've played any Bethesda game before like Fallout you are familiar with many Skyrim elements (down to the lockpicking system).

However it's still a time sink and i'm planning on finishing it (by my estimate maybe just in time for the release of Mass Effect 3 in March ;))

Personally i've not played that many games as in previous years and so may have missed some of the big ones (and only own an Xbox 360 since this fall). I also haven't played any game excessive like i've done in the past so it's hard to choose but i'd probably go with Modern Warfare 3 mainly due to its Single Player Hollywood scope (they really had some awesome visuals.. especially NYC under Siege) but i love the MP part of it even though i'm mediocre at best (but it's fast paced, non stop action against live opponents and that's sometimes all you want).

Battlefield 3 is the game of the year 2011. The graphics were amazing, and you get to drive many vehicles, such as tanks, helicopters, etc…

I don't play many games, but I just finished Saint's Row 3 and I really, really loved it :D So much fun!

My Game of the Year is definitely Skyrim. I am a sucker for Fantasy RPGs, and even though it does have a few annoying mini-bugs (nothing game-crashing for me thankfully) I can see the work that Bethesda has put into it.

Granted it's difficult to write an original Fantasy story for a videogame these days and the formula is always the same, but the details, the huge free-roaming world, the OST and the fact that you don't have to follow a straight line in your quests unless you want to are big selling points for me.

Need more Fantasy games in 2012! Come on Diablo 3! :D

I'm having a three-way (get your mind out of the bloody gutter) with Star Wars The Old Republic, Battlefield 3 and Skyrim. I honestly cant decide.

Right now I'd say a tie with Portal 2 and L.A. Noire. The latter has such a unique feel and the facial animation is quite spectacular for this sort of a game.

I'm reserving judgement on Grand Theft Auto IV. Graphically it's superb, but I'm still in the early stages of playing it and so far I still like San Andreas better on most levels. But that may change - I found myself getting into L.A. Noire and Portal 2 first so I've put GTA IV aside for now till I finish those two.

L.A. Noire was pretty weak, but I've discussed my thoughts on it elsewhere. It's a beautiful technology demo with pretty terrible gameplay.

Grand Theft Auto IV came out in 2008. :p

In my opinion, Portal 2 is the best game of 2011. I have spent countless hours to playing this game. This game is the much better game than other.

Skyrim would get my vote by a country mile, brilliant.

Other great games I played were Batman Arkham City, Assasins Creed Revelations, and Portal 2.

I also loved this game, and I had never heard of it until my brother gave me his copy. We also lost countless hours, first with me playing the one-player( with my brother usually calling me an F***ing Idiot for not figuring the puzzels out faster) then we went through the excellent two-player game!
Loved GLaDOS!:guffaw:
