Most of the stuff I had in the 80s was for the Master System.
I had
Sonic the hedgehog
Transbot (not on a cartridge but a little memory card that went into a slot on the front of the Master System)
Altered Beast
Assault City (light gun game)
Thunderblade
G Lock
Populous (man was that fun)
I had tons more but just can't remember their names.

I used to have Afterburner and F-16 Fighting Falcon and a couple of light gun shooters on Sega Master System.
At the same time, I also had an Atari XE Console/Computer, which played games that were designed for the older Atari 400, 800, 800 XL computers, as well as newer games that were designed for it as a console.
One of my favorite games for it was "Rescue on Fractalis". In it, you fought your way from space to land on various alien planets and rescue crash survivors. It was pretty interesting as when you flew through the mountains to find the crash sites, it was done in first person perspective.... in that old Atari 4bit/8bit way. Game also scared the bejeezus out of me on one occasion.

Guardian Legend was incredible. Who would have thought that a Zelda/Shmup hybrid could be so good? It also had some of the best music on the NES.
Oooh Elite.......... Anyone remember that on the C64?
Amazing fast wireframe graphics .. Not bad for an 8 bit machine.
Speaking of 8 bit machines check out this demo...... I am not sure how they did it but it's supposed to be a C64 demo

I tried to like Final Fantasy VIII and VIII pt 2 but just couldn't get into it, the 2nd one was just "click this button when prompted" and got boring after a while.
I just could not see the appeal but I did like Lightning a lot. She had character.
