Your favorite Vanguard characters

I didn´t like MU Diego Reyes. But the primary version is most interesting. He has to make decisions, heart-wrenching ones, has to follow orders and has to deal with his guilty conscious: being sworn to secrecy and not being able to warn his ex-wife. The Shedai, on the other hand, are great foes. Also Dr. Fisher grew on me.

My favorite Vangaurd charters are Quinn, Pennington, Desai and Reyes, And Xiong was a complex character when it came to dealing with the Shedai. I like Khatasi as a starship Captain it's nice to see how she deals being in command and the problems she faces with dealing with some jerky crew members who don't like a women being in command of a starship. And Clark Terrel and his crew. T'Prynn is a complex .She's not your Typical logical Vulcan she make's mis takes which makes for good story telling. And she pays a heavy price for the choices she's made.

^I may have liked Xiong more were it not for the fact that he seemed to have absolutely no regard for the chain of command. I've re-read several of the Vanguard novels recently, and just finished Declassified. I'm amazed that Khatami didn't try to kill him after he chased her through a corridor, all the while shouting classified information that may have been overheard by other Endeavor crew members.

I had a déjà vu when I read about the Meta Genome. I still have 5 novels to read, two of them on my bookshelf :).

This is a hard one. I really liked all of the character but if I had to narrow it down to my top picks, I would go with Reyes, T'Prynn, Pennington, Quinn, Jetanien and Fisher.

Vanguard: T´Prin, Pennington, Quinn, Reyes, Desai
Thats are my Favorite Characters in Vanguard :) Great books by the way.

After the first Vanguard novel I didn´t know what to make of Pennington. He´s showing his human side with all his strengths and weaknesses. And now he one of my favorite characters.

I´m indecisive regarding to Desai.

Reyes has already shown conflicting emotions when I tried to deal with the death of his Ex and the colonists and the need for secrecy.

Jetanien makes me smile.

I like Dr. Fisher and Ming Xiong, too.

I like T´Prynns musical talent and her professional manner.

These are the characters, who stuck in my head so far.

In the next weeks I´m going to start into Vanguard 4 and 5. :)

This is a hard one to figure out...but I guess Quinn, T'Prynn, Reyes, Gorkon, Nogura, the Sagitarrius crew, the Zin'za crew, Rana, Jackson in the later books (after he stopped being so dull), Zett, Jetanian, Karume, Lugok, the later romulan ambassador, and many many more. Too many good reasons for each, from single scenes to defining traits of their characters.

For a complete list I expanded from David Mack's minipedia of characters in Vanguard, see here on Memory Beta. It was a really good way to make real for myself so many of the faces of the series, and to realise its scope.

T'Prynn is one of the best written and fleshed out characters to ever appear in Treklit. I really enjoyed the early Vanguard novels and the interaction between Reyes, Tprynn, Desai and Fisher. Those were all great choices to be focal points in the series and kudos to Mack for venturing outside the box to give us characters that stray away from the formulaic chain of command. The XO, Chief Engineer, etc. are all present but their roles are minimal and the story does not suffer a bit.

I also enjoyed Quinn and the "Han Solo" kind of persona he seemed to project.

Such a fantastic series. Looking forward to beginning the Seekers novels.

For me, there were no really unlikable characters in Vanguard. That said, my favs in order were Quinn, Pennington, and Jetanien.

I would love to read more stories about Quinn, but DMack has pretty much said there won't be any. But you know a prequel or two on Quinn's life before Vanguard might be interesting. <hint, hint>.

While dealing with Reyes´s court martial in Vanguard 4 I took a liking to Dr. Anthony Leone, CMO of the USS Endeavor.

Dr Leone is a very interesting character I like his and Khatani's friendship in the Vanguard books.

While reading Vanguard 4 I came to appreciate Tim Pennington and his willingness to forgive T´Prynn for ruining his career. I enjoyed the scenes that took place on Vulcan.
Another great moment was when Reyes and Desai had to say good-bye after the court martial. I´m curious about how their appeal is going to turn out. I have still four novels ahead....

I´m surprised how Cervantes Quinn changed and turned out to be. Glad that I gave Vanguard a shot after all.

My big advantage - now that all of the Vanguard novels are long since released in German - is, that I can read them in a row without having to wait too long for another novel to be released - and "dying" in the time between. :)
