^IIRC, the UK releases of Battlestar Galactica have all been fairly poor efforts with little or no extras. Certainly no extended "Pegasus" or "Unfinished Business" cuts.

No the Pegasus extended version is on there

Season 1 has all the deleted scenes, and Season 2 has all the stuff from the R1 2.0 release, but the only stuff from 2.5 is the Pegasus DC.
Season 3 has frak all though, apart from The Story So Far thing. oooh wow.
And Razor is exactly the same as the R1


Speaking of The Simpsons, anyone know when Season 11 will be out? I guess the release of the movie slowed things down a bit in the commentary recording department, but Season 10 came out nearly a year ago now. Get a move on

The Simpsons season 11 is out on the 6th of October in the UK.

The UK releases aren't great. I've got them.

The season 2 release though DOES have the extended version of Pegasus. It just doesn't have the original version, we just got the one, the extended one. As for Unfinished Business, we just got the bog-standard version. Podcasts were included for the first half of the season's episodes and then nothing for the latter half.

A large part of the inconsistency between the US and UK releases of the sets is down to timing. We didn't have the second season split down into two parts, we just got the one release, which was before the US got their 2.5 release. On the one hand, great, on the other, we got what extras were finished for the 2.0 US release, but obviously couldn't get any extras for the 2.5 release which hadn't been completed at the time, hence we didn't get the 2.5 podcasts, nor the extended version of Unfinished Business.

Disappointing, but not nearly as frustrating as the Season 5 UK release of The Shield. The final episode was edited down to a standard 42 minutes, from 70. The US set was released first with the uncut version of the episode, we then got it later, but with the edited version.

Can't wait until we get the Jericho Season 2 release where we probably WON'T get the alternate ending to the finale, and as far as the Homicide Life on the Street sets go, yes, I'm collecting them too, and again, won't be surprised when they DON'T release the crossover episodes/finale movie.

I could probably put up with the loss of some extras, but the potential lack of the extended cuts and the damned PAL speed up means I wait for R1 versions.

A lack of extras isn't critical for me when I'm deciding whether to buy a DVD or not. I could even live with the edited version of Unfinished Business, but cutting over 25 minutes of material from The Shield's fifth season finale was just taking the piss IMO. It ruins the episode to some extent. Sadly I only found this out AFTER buying the set.

The episodes are the most important thing, and I think Paramount has done a good job with the ST sets in that regard. However, I do like my bonus features as well, and the Trek ones are too much cheerleading and not enough good info.

The Muppet Morsels text commentaries on the first Muppet Show set are fantastic. Although I would have liked more commentaries, the I Love Lucy Complete Series box is an excellent package of hilarious content and informative features. In terms of sheer volume of bonus features, Seinfeld is a definite contender. I haven't watched too many of my Stargate SG-1 bonus features, but the later sets put commentaries for every episode, and I like the thin-pack design of the boxes.

The best bonus features are probably on the Red Dwarf DVDs. I particularly like the documentary about the creation of the show on Series I. But the docs on Series III-VIII are decent too. The actor who plays Kryten is one funny dude.
