Others I'm fond of: Uhura, K'Ehleyr, 7 of 9 (though I've just seen her in some early season 4 episodes), Ro Laren, Jadzia Dax.

Honorable mention as interesting and well-written and acted female characters goes to Kai Winn, the Romulan Commander, Dr. Miranda Jones, T'Pring... and Female Founder (what a cold piece of goo that was...), except that I'm not sure she is female in the strict sense of the word!

Glad to see Jadzia doing so well in this poll. Definitely my favourite person on DS9 for both looks and personality.

Uhura wins for me by a landslide. She had it all, and she broke some major ground not just in television history but in sci-fi as a whole.

Kira comes second, for character development, acting, and just overall hotness. When Nana Visitor dials up the sex appeal, the readings go off the charts!

Uhura because she's a sci-fi icon and just so damn attractive, but Ro Laren gets the honourable mention for having a great character arc and adding some much needed spikyness to the TNG crew on her regrettably few appearances.
