Probably. It also lead to the monotonous ''KirkSpockandMcCoy'' no surprises-landing party week after week. Chekov and Scotty sometimes got a spot. The only time Uhura beamed down in Year THREE was by Parmen's force in PLATO'S STEPCHILDREN. Sulu got one final voyage with THAT WHICH SURVIVES. Chapel also got PLATO'S and briefly came down in PARADISE SYNDROME. Too much information...

Yeah I definitely got bored with landing parties in season 3. They should have mixed them up more.

For me there is no denying that they are all beautiful women, each and very one of them. As a child in the 70's I would have chosen Rand hands-down. As I became older my tastes changed. No question Tonia Barrows would have made me take on a six foot rabbit or my chances with Don Juan, but she holds down the runner-up position these days. I chose Zahra not only because her look pings with me greatly, but because she has a very similar appearance to my lovely wife.

Once again.....none of them are hard to look at. :techman:

Janice Rand.

Grace Lee Whitney was always beautiful, voluptuous and very Alpha Babe-ish. And she never posed naked in a magazine like a common ho. She's got class ... and by extension, Janice Rand does, too.

I'll always love GLW, and Janice Rand. JJ had better have a nuJanice in his next Trek movie.

You know, while the character wasn't technically a Yeoman; for the episode she was featured in, she essentially served the same function.

So, with the above in mind, I have a write in:

Dr. Helen Noel (TOS: "Dagger of the Mind")

Yum.;)

I typically detest discussions about female characters online since they invariably focus on their attractiveness, not the way the character was portrayed and how well acted. Admittedly there's not much meat to most of these yeoman characters, but, still...

Anyway, I applaud those here who didn't traffic in the superficial.

I watched Balance of Terror the other day, which is one of my favourite ever Trek stories. I love the more ensemble feel to the earlier episodes but I'd forgotten at how little Rand got to do as a character. She literally minced on set, offered a hot beverage and minced off a gain, pausing only to be hugged by Kirk.

While I appreciate that they were building up the character relationships at this point and the instinctive hug was meant to be symptomatic of their feelings, I did feel that the character was superfluous.

If you moosh all the yeomen together you do end up with an interesting character though. It's just a shame that Rand didn't go the distance.
