Your favorite second Trek

Now that I think on it, I should have clicked TMP but I consider that part of TOS and thus a wasted vote. No, DS9 it is.

Im voting for TMP.

Star Trek came back after nearly ten years away. We saw a more mature Enterprise and crew (And more mature hair, Shatners regrowing hairline and curls take a bow), it was as if the franchise had come of age and was now on its way to something big.

It was also, and IS also, one of the only true to trek premise movie stories to make it onto the big screen, and it didnt need big space battles* etc to draw in punters.

It had classic Trek feel, and until maybe TFF (Crucify me) was the only true Trek. TFF was a back to the unknown that the movies had seemed to have forgotten.

* See all TNG Movies and ST:II and VI. :D

And I wish I'd voted for ST:2-6 after reading Neroon's argument. I guess we all just like Trek. :D

Well, here's my problem: I think 1 and 2 are Star Trek distilled but all the rest of the Trek films, to one degree or another, kept missing the target.

The purist in me still wishes Star Trek died when Spock did and both stayed dead. But the purist is tiny and I still like DS9.

At first glance, I thought this would just be picking one of the other shows. It would've been a hard choice because I really don't love any of the other shows as I love TOS. I probably would've said ENT or VOY, as those are the only shows I've had much exposure to (so far). But the movie option made it a lot easier; I chose 2-6.

It wasn't really possible to pick one, since I like them all differently for different reasons at different times.

I voted for the movies 2-6. Next to TOS they're the only ones I watch. I found all the other series dull and they just don't age well at all. DS9 held my attention for a little while. The others I watched out of curiousity but never watch reruns. "Voyager" was a complete waste of my time except for one or two episodes, and "Enterprise" was almost as bad as Space: 1999. Maybe not even as good.

Hmmm, TAS vs TNG. I voted the former but if I had a box set of each I'd play them both regularly. I like seeing more "original" original series, but TNG in later seasons picked up the Federation flag quite well. What to do? Flip a coin.

After that, I'd rather watch DS9 all over again than the movies, sure its more original/TNG Trek, but they lack a certain something and are limited in scope. DS9 does well too, scores points on individual stories and characters, but I remain a bit iffy on story arcs. Mini-series yes, story arcs, meh.

Voyager and Enterprise drop right off the radar I'm not sorry to say.

I have to think of the movies as separate from the series, if for no other reason than they are a very different medium. It could be argued that such a distinction should eliminate them altogether. At any rate, the movies have the same actors, characters, names, etc .... but at least in the case of ST 2 - ST 6, you have a consistent look and feel that is markedly different from that of the original television show. Ergo - that is how I come to view them as separate, or at elast separate enough.

^ I agree with Neroon. Even Generations, which at times felt very much like a big budget TNG episode, is quite different from the TV series. Hell, they blew up the damn ship!

For me, too, there is a distinction between the movies and their progenitor TV series.

You proceed from a false assumption. I love ST and ENT equally because they have the one thing the others don't: Characters who appealed to me right off the bat.

A majority of the characters on the other shows grew on me over time (some a lot faster than others) but it wasn't love at first sight for any of them.
