Yes, she dared!
Let's see if there's anybody who will admit to liking a romantic comedy. Are there romcoms you like and why do you like them? And yes, "Groundhog Day" is a romantic comedy so get off your high nerd horse. You know you've seen it.
And I still haven't seen Annie Hall...
Here's my... short list:
- Before Sunrise: Two strangers meet and spend a night in Vienna, just talking a lot (mostly...). None of this cheesy Hollywood bullshit, no slapstick jokes, no embarrassing moments, no overly contrived plot, just a charming movie.
- When Harry met Sally: Come on, how can you not like this movie? There's so much fun dialog in it! The concept is a bit silly because it's so obvious that men and women CAN be friends. But meh, it's a fun movie.
- 500 Days of Summer: Adorable, and they don't even get each other in the end. Quirky, fun, again lots of talking and no cliché plot. The anti-romcom? Love the indy style.
- Amélie: It's been years since I've seen this one but I remember liking it so much. Adorable, quirky and funny.
There are some more that I really liked but it's been a while since I saw them so I don't know how well they hold up to repeat viewing: Shall we dance (gimme a break, i love ballroom dancing), Crazy Stupid Love (that Dirty Dancing scene, omg), . High Fidelity was quite fun, too.
Stuff I hate:
- movies with an overly contrived plot and concept. The only exception: How to lose a guy in 10 days. What an absurd and dumb concept but... I just love watching Kate Hudson make Matthew McConaudfhxcuhy's (spelling?) life hell.
Oh shit, and I really like Serendipity because of the two actors.
- slapstick (Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler doing a romcom? Ugh...).
- Humour for 16-year-olds. I will not watch There's something about Mary again. Ever.
- Moonstruck. I just hate it. It's so awful.
