Your favorite countries

The thought occurred to me when I was mentally ranking France in my personal hierarchy of countries in another thread, that it might be fun to ask what people's favorite countries were.

Mine--

1. United States (for all our faults)
2. United Kingdom
3. Japan
4. France (and it's really close to being number 3; I eventually had to choose Japan for prurience's sake :p )
5. Netherlands
6. Germany
7. Belgium
8. Republic of Korea
9. Sweden
10. India (they do a really great job, considering, but this is clearly a handicapped score)

Home (one of the most beautiful countries in the world ;))
Japan (tech paradise and surprisingly like home)
USA (god bless her infinite variety and gung-ho spirit:))
Canada

There are others like/dislike for various reasons, but these three closest to heart/spirit.
edit: I'm assuming you mean countries we've been to rather than fantasy fave countries?

edit edit: Just wanted to add Iceland. Anyone who's been will know why ;)

Hm, Top10, eh?

1.) Spain - I just really like the culture, the people, the food, the weather and all that stuff;
2.) Luxembourg - I've only been there once for a couple days, but the people were friendly beyond belief even though I was travelling in a group that perhaps wasn't making the best of impressions. ;) And it just felt very, very nice overall.
3.) USA (for all your faults ;)), it's where I get 90% or so of my entertainment from.
4.) Italy - pretty much the same as Spain, except I don't speak Italian.
5.) Netherlands - I've always liked it there, and not only for the obvious reasons.
6.) Brazil - haven't been there, but I want to go some day, I think I'd like it.
7.) Sweden - gorgeous country and great people, but too cold to rank higher (I like it warm).
8.) Czech Republic - my favourite football players are Czech, and I don't know, always kind of felt an affinity for Czech(-o-slovakia)
9.) Japan - 9% of the missing 10 of my entertainment come from there.
10.) Austria - oh well, I guess it's not totally horrible, or I wouldn't be living here anymore. ;)

Hmmm...

1. United Kingdom - Despite our current problems, there is no place I'd rather live long term.
2. Italy - Great food and beautiful country. Nice people too.
3. France - I like the French policy to everything.
4. USA - I'd like to go there some day, and it's responsible for creating a lot of music, and entertainment. I have to admit that. ;)
5. Sweden - The Nordic countries have a great reputation, and Sweden has the best. Haven't been there, but would like to go sometime.
6. Austria - The alpine countryside is beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Like Germany, but with great scenery.
7. Switzerland - Haven't been there.. yet, but their neutrality is very appealing. And the alpine thing should help it when I go.
8. Japan - Great culture, and yeh, it provides a decent portion of our technology.
9. Greece - I respect their history immensely. And I want to go sometime.
10. Germany - I do like Germanic culture and their food.

Haven't been to 5 of these, but that'll soon be reduced to 4. Switzerland after exams in June!

I won't be ranking Italy, as I couldn't ever give my own country a fair assessment: I love it, I hate it, but most of all it drives me mad.

1. Canada
2. New Zealand
3. Australia
4. Spain
5. UK
6. Ireland
7. Sweden
8. USA
9. France
10. Germany

Not having been to every country, its impossible for me to fairly rank them. Even the ones I have visited, I have not lived in for extended periods. And thats the only way to have a fair opinion.

I can only comment with certainty on the US, Mexico, and Canada. Of those I place the US and Canada equally and Mexico last.

I forgot Canada.

Yeah. Pretty much par for the course. :sigh:

:p

Anyway, this is tough for me to do, as I've never traveled outside of North America (not for lack of wanting to, just lack of means), so I'll list countries I really want to visit someday:

UK
Portugal
Italy
Australia
Peru
Japan
Norway
Argentina
Czech Republic

There are tons of others, of course, but those are most of the ones that leap to mind.

From the countries I've been to, my favourites are the USA and Japan. I still wouldn't live anywhere else but where I do, though. Plenty of places are nice to visit, mind.

1. United States of America (all my stuff is there)
2. Japan (if I could've been born anywhere else, it would be here)
3. United Kingdom (I tend to get drunk there a lot)
4. Ireland (beautiful countryside)
5. Germany (it'll never be the same once I get there)
6. Nigeria (I'd love to visit Africa before I die)

Hmm. I've never thought of countries in terms of favorites; they're all very different and unique. And when I tried to think of favorites, the first ones that came to mind were ancient civilizations, like Crete and Egypt.

Let's see, off the top of my head:

1. USA, of course.
2. Canada - we're lucky to have such a peaceful and loyal neighbor.
3. England - Our primary parental culture; it's cool that the country we rebelled against and defeated is now our closest ally.
4. Japan - Exotic and appealing.
5. Australia - Also exotic, in a different way; it maintains that frontier outpost feel.
6. Principality of Sealand - It's like something out of a Williams Gibson novel.
7. Ireland - a beautiful country where everyone is descended from kings-- can't beat that.
8. Norway - My impression of this country is very peaceful.
9. Andorra - It's like a hidden, unknown land in its own little bubble universe.
10. Egypt - It's got the Sphinx and the Pyramids!

Of course, these are my impressions, based on viewing them from far away (except that first one ;)).

I'll only include countries I've either lived in or visited. The others I don't have enough info to render an opinion.

1. U.S.A.
2. New Zealand
3. Canada
4. U.K.
5. Germany
6. Czech Republic
7. The Netherlands
8. Austria
9. Belgium
10. Hungary

Everyone is putting the U.S. on their list? And you call yourselves good Europeans.;)

I've never been out of the U.S. except for a couple of hours in Canada so this is all theoretical.

1)Finland- I heard it is very cold and quiet and everyone minds there own business there and I like all those things.
2)Denmark- Same as Finland just a little less.
3)England- Because I can understand the language it is the country whose culture I can get into most
4)Japan- I have known a lot of Japanese people and I have always had an interest in the martial arts so I know a bit about the culture.
5)Israel- I like the idea of tough Jews and I think Israeli women are kind of hot.
6)India- Interested in Hindu philosophy and for some reason every boss my girlfriend has ever had in Indian.
6)Belgium- Just because it is fun to say Belgium.

That's about the only ones who stand out.

1. Japan (Video games and anime -- what would I do without them?)
2. America (I'd hate to live there, but your technological innovations and entertainment are second to none)
3. England
4. Germany
5. Canada (home, sweet home)
6. China (The rise of China is fascinating)
7. Brazil
8. India
9. Russia
10. France

This thread reminds me that I haven't travelled as often or as extensively as I probably should. Of the countries I have visited I can say without hesitation that Italy is my favourite. True I have only been there as a holidaymaker and so in that limited capacity I can say that there is nothing about the country I can find fault with. I have even less experience of Croatia, but in the brief time I was there, I loved the place. Other than that I would have to mention the US. I have never been, but the country has provided so much tv, film and literature over the years that I have enjoyed it would be churlish not to.
