your FAV FX sequence

What is your favorite Star Trek FX sequence of all time?

For me, in terms of the movies, it is the first fight between Kirk/Khan in TWOK. The whole counter-scene between Spock and Kirk as Kirk stalls for time with Khan, and Kirk's final deadpan to Khan "here it comes'...and the expression on Khan's face as the shields of the Reliant drop..great stuff..

For TV series, modern Trek (TNG onward) I love the scene in Sacrafice of Angels when the Defiant is making it's run to bust through the Dominion fleet, then the camera angle tilts up and an Armada of Klingon ships comes from out of the sun and pokes a whole threw for the Defiant...

What are some of yours?

Probably not my top favorite (that would be the whole of TMP) but as a sequence, that would be Data's dream flight when he has his first dream (the complete dream that came later in the episode). I can't recall the episode name at the moment but they were at DS9 and it was the first of a two parter.

Umm..yeah..that was a good one. Pretty interesting you chose one with out space FX. Very good. I will try to think of one of those as well

You forgot his flight through the corridors through the roof to outside the ship and around it.

DS9's Sacrifice of Angels battle sequences, the scenes of the Excelsior being hit by the shockwave in ST IV and the opening scenes from FC with the zoom in the Borg ship come to mind.

I love scenes when actors play more than one part, like Data and Lore walking down the corridor talking to each other in Datalore.

BoBW II with the assault on the cube--the ship separates and the haunting shot of anti-matter spead striking the cube while Locutus follows the attack on the screen.

Sacrifice of Angels

The destruction of Earth in Twilight

The shot of the Suliban helix

The transwarp hub in Endgame

The underwater construction of the Xindi weapon

The Xindi probe attack in "The Expanse"

The teaser in Unimatrix Zero Part I.

The crash landing of Voyager in Timeless

The interior shot of the Sphere in "Anomaly"

The dogfight abve NY in Storm Front II

The shot of 8472 bioships coming together and blowing up Borg planet

My favotive sequence is a 'simple one' per se - but I really liked it and was surprised the Star Trek franchise didn't use it earlier - but it's from ENT's Divergence where they have a front view of the NX-02 Colombia speeding along through and they then they do a sweping 'zoom in' through the front of the bridge module to Captain Hernandez standing there giving orders.

Yesterday's Enterprise, when the D fires on the attacking KBops, we see one's shields crumble like a balloon and explode, and another flies thru the blast.

Coolest thing we'd ever seen at that time.

TMP drydock sequence, god that ship is MASSIVE!

ST3: TSFS Escape from the starbase sequence

"Sacrifice of Angels" armada spacebattle sequence

Voyager crashing on the ice planet in "Timeless"

"Twilight" Enterprise bridge exposed to space, very dramatic

"Call to Arms" Defiant joining the Federation fleet

I don't play the All-Time favorites game, but I thought of one I've always liked that hasn't been mentioned:

The time portal in "All Our Yesterdays." Especially when old man Atoz is trying to shove Captain Kirk thru it. Simple but effective. Terrific sound effect, as well.

A similar visual was used in "For The World Is Hollow..." when the Oracle puts the zap on Kirk and Spock for violating the temple. Y'know, I'd expect a person to be pretty messed up after being hit with something that looked like that.

For me, it's simple--the TMP warp effect. Seeing it in the theatre back in '79, seeing the Enterprise go to warp like that for the first time, the whole audience went wild.

Most of its impact is lost seeing it at home on your TV screen though...

I don't a single favorite FX sequence, but one of my favorites that hasn't been mentioned is the first shot from "The Cage," as the camera flies through the Enterprise's upper saucer dome to the bridge. It was quite a feat for a television pilot from 1964!

I love the ol' NX-01 getting absolutely pummeled at the end of "Azati Prime" (great music too,) but I don't think anything can beat the tripod Ent-D swooping in to save the day in AGT's alternate future.

Sorry but for it's time..the Doomsday Machine's final countdown sequence just rocked... I know where JAWS got it's music from..

One I recall getting a real "Wow!" feeling from watching was in the sequence in ENT's "Minefield" where the section of hull plating carrying Reed and Archer is separating from the NX-01. and Archer looks over the edge as the distance between plate and ship grows larger. Really nice FX job they did on that one. :D

Wouldn't a half threw have done just as well?

For my personal favorites, I have three really good ones. I liked the end of Azati Prime, the scenes where Columbia is attached to the Enterprise during the Klingon disease episode, and many of the shots during Nemesis.

Has to be the Defiant joining the Fleet. At the time hadno access to spoilers and my mum would rent the newest Trek vidoes from Blockbusters. After that amazing episode and the scene were DUkat picks up Sisko's baseball I was stunned to see that many starships on screen. To this day that remains my favourite FX shot.

However Voyager's crash landing in Timeless does deserve a mention.
