Your dream Trek Game

Necros

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
What would it be like? :)

Mine is something like this: It would be a mixture of Elite Force, Deus Ex, Brothers in Arms and Thief. Sounds confusing? Let me explain. It would contain exploration of the starship you are on (basically your HQ/home), use of holodecks, transporters, Trek gadgets, you could interact with everybody and everything (though of course you couldn't visit every deck or go into every cabin but still into a good portion of them), if you have other characters with you on a mission, you could control them, and maybe there could be some covert missions too where you'd have to sneak around, disguise yourself, look for specific objects/information/whatever and get out. And of course a great story with complex gameplay (keeping what was good in the two EF games and adding more, new ideas).
So basically and action-RPG-adventure kind of game, in first person view mode but I wouldn't mind an option to switch into 3rd person mode.
And a very important thing would be in the game is to have many "holonovels", containing stuff from the series (novels from there with the cast or events from episodes), and as I've mentioned above, exploration of the starship, preferably Enterprise with accurate recreation.
Also I wouldn't mind seeing Enterprises and other well known starships/shuttles/etc. from the series to be avalaible for a "tour" in the holodeck. Or if they'd make sequels/prequels too, then having the game on different ships from different times.

And an other game would be a mixture of Bridge Commander and Legacy, only this time with a more talented group developing it and actually letting them finish the job. So, you'd have more tactical and control options of your starship(s) and it would also contain a little bit more action. Perhaps also an "arcade" mode with a lot of action, huge battles against each other or the bots in simple death matches or in set up scenarios. And an option to replay some of Star Trek's biggest, most historical battles known from the series and movies.

Anyway, besides ships you can explore, I think the holodecks hold a great amount of possiblities. I mean in there everything is possible, imagine anything and you can do it. We could have many famous scenarios recreated there but in Trek style or with stuff from Star Trek. The devs could release a good modding kit with lots of materials and then we could add anything we want (well, not me but talented people :D). Maybe two teams could work on a game, one creating the SP/MP side and the other creating all the extra stuff.

What do you think about my ideas? What would you change? Or do you have something completely different? Let's see it! :)

what about a Civilization style star trek game, that'd be great.

Civ IV is one of the best games ever, certainly most addictive, and a star trek civ game wouldnt suffer from the usual trek game syndrome of only playing through it once and getting tired of it and not playing it again.

Maybe make it a galaxy style map, or maybe just focusing on the area of space around where your fed, rom, kling, tholian, cardie, ferengi, et. al empires would be.

My perfect Trek game would be something along the lines of Bridge Commander meets Mass Effect. The mass effect engine was really good in having a 1st person shooter where most of the time you were not in combat. Bridge Commander did space battles in the largest scale that it can be without losing the concern for your one ship. The question for any game is who is the player playing. Is it an officer, a ship or an empire. It'd be fun to have a Star Trek game where you play as the first officer and eventually get promoted to captain of the same ship over the course of the story

CivTrek was done as Birth of the Federation. I loved that game. I still have it on one of my PCs.

These Trek game ideas sound really cool. It sounds hard but combining the FPS aspect with more adventure style gaming would be ideal...for a more complete experience, adding in the Bridge Commander engine type for the starship combat would be a fan's dream---but it might be too hard to pull off so many aspects successfully.

I wish there were an easier way to create holodeck missions for EF, a sort of 'prefab' mission creator where you could use stock sets, put them together, and create simple mission objectives. And I'd still love an Armada I mission editor. And a continuation of the 25th Anniv/JR/A Final Unity line...SoVF of course.

Ooh ooh OOH!

Can I play, too?

I'm thinking a combination of Armada I and Starfleet Command III as the general basis. Large galactic maps to navigate between missions, then smaller "star system" maps for building bases and fleets, and finally a "mission level" map for the actual battles and "search & scan" - type missions. Keep the general ideas of resource collection, varied purpose-specific bases, and large fleets from Armada, while retaining SFC's ship-level system management and expanded versions of the officer and ship upgrades.

What I envision is navigating the galactic map, picking a star system, building up bases and fleets, and using those fleets to either defend the bases or launch missions from those bases. In the missions themselves, you would have "micro-manage" control over your own ship, and a more generalized "fleet captain" control over the rest of your fleet, which would carry out your commands in a semi-autonomous fashion. You'd start out with one small ship and a construction fleet, and only lose completely if your own ship was destroyed.

Perhaps most importantly (to myself) would be the ships themselves. I would want them to basically be infinitely-upgradeable as the player accumulates resources/points/currency/etc. As you reach and exceed your hull's "hard point" capacity, additional resources would have to be expended on expanding the hull capacity itself, up to the point of ridiculous "fanboy" ships bristling with engines and weapons at the end of long campaigns.

Yes, SoVF would be my dream Trek game...the Trek adventure genre has been dormant for too long.

Being a fan of the GTA series - I'd love a world that you could really explore as indepth and participate in as much as that. I love the fact that you can land choppers on buildings, go ANYWHERE and do loads of little mini games and missions that can aid you in completing the main storyarc, which contains missions that can be completed in a myriad of different ways.

What I'd really like to see if A Final Unity again - with the ship battles a bit more BC in style and the away missions more like Elite Force, but with the option to change views. I also don't think it would be unreasinable to get a whole starship to crawl through and explore like the EF add-on packs, which are great fun.

Or hows about just any kind of game whatsoever that just wasn't awful???? Come on liscence holders - do us something good!

An unending space exploration with a huge database of interesting facts and puzzles to be solved. Combat would be allowed but in very limited situations.

I've never been a fan of joystick slamming shoot every thing in sight Trek games.

There is a mod exactly like this in the BTS expansion for Civ IV- just change around the civilization names and it gest awfully close to this. I wouldn't be surprised if someone's already modded it into a Trek game.

I think my dream Trek game would contain elements of virtually all genres (rpg, space sim, etc ...) all rolled harmoniously into one big game.
It should have a rather large single player ... something along the lines of KOTOR and Mass Effect really.

In essence you would have to be able to go on an actual adventure that requires you to solve various mysteries, fly/battle starships (ala Bridge Commander), exploration and discovery.

I am a bit sick of all the FPS's being thrown at us.
Elite Force 1 and 2 were good, but I need more than a simple shooter or a simple space sim.

Make a true single player game that is massive (or at least adequately large).
We need to be able to interact with more characters, the ships crew, interact with other SF vessels and have them included into all of it.

I mean heck, if they can make KOTOR on 4 CD's (which was a rather decently large game) then doubling that for a Trek game and making it twice as bigger with more content in it would be REALLY good.

I am saddened the gaming industry never really went back to the genre of TNG: 'A final Unity'.
I mean honestly ... it would be possible to develop a game that is by all means a well developed one containing everything for everybody ... yet they focus on genres that don't work and end up giving us half finished products.
I mean ... Legacy was not finished really (even though I liked it) and they could have fixed most of the game with a simple patch that would be about 100 to 500 Mb large, yet they didn't.
The mod community did provide vast improvements to the game though.
:-)
But ultimately you do get tired of ships shooting at one another.

Like I said, they called it "Judgement Rites".

I'd like a management-style game, where you have a large group of people with diverse skills, a wide range of technology and a series of different missions requiring intelligent use of the resources available to you. Kind of like Starship Creator with far greater scale and strategic options, or like what Battlecruiser 3000AD was supposed to be in some senses.

Add in crew development, transfer and promotion, the risks of them being injured or killed on a mission, consequences from your actions (eg. relations between the Federation and other races - perhaps inciting a war, or bringing in a new member, etc), and a dynamic game universe, and the possibilities are limitless.

Star Fleet Battles. :D

EDIT: I was being tongue in cheek, but now that I think about it, a computer version of SFB that automated the DAC would be nice.

I'd love to see a Trekified version of the Battlecruiser:3000ad series (but one that actually works and is fun to play). A sandbox game where you have an enormous amount of control over your ship, and can also travel down to planet surfaces. You could follow a campaign mode with missions from Starfleet, or just roam the galaxy in your Federation hotrod.

Another would basically be a Mass Effect/KOTOR style game set in the Trek universe.
