You can now buy a universal remote which resembles...

The Wand Company and BBC Worldwide Aprominent part of the show for more than 40 years, a version of Doctor Who's sonic screwdriver is now available to buy. It comes in the form of a universal remote control, which, despite a highish price tag, will soon have Whovians across the nation gesturing wildly at TV screens and iPod docks.
A surprisingly heavy, metal replica of the Mark VII screwdriver currently used by the Doctor, the remote uses infraredtechnology to store various remote control commands. So now instead of just pushing play on your MySky remote you can flourish your sonic screwdriver and tap, rotate or flick it like a wand.
Up to 39 commands can be stored, however, it's probably best you make use of the three divided sections and only store commands for three remotes or you'll get awfully confused.

It will sell faster than the iPhone 5.

OmahaStar Ninja'ed you by a couple weeks

OmahaStar's thread was about a Wii sonic screwdriver, with no links or pictures.

Is this the same item?
Wii Remote shaped like a Sonic Screwdriver, yea, sounds like the same thing.

Though, you do make a good point, Omaha's thread was mostly about verifying if they were region locked, where this one has a link to the actual Product and stuff.

No they are not the same. The wiimote came out about 6 months to a year ago.

The tv remotes have just come out, they are a bit pricey though.

Wiimote

The tv remote is about ten times the cost of the wiimote.

ooops :alienblush:

I read too fast and "Mark VII" caused me to see Wii

Yep. The Wii-mote thingy is for the Wii only. This universal remote is for tv, dvd player, Tardis, etc. Not the same thing.

Also ... 120 bucks US for a remote? Ouch. And 7 pounds for the Wii-mote? Score!

If it is a true universal remote that could work anything electronic you pointed it at it would be worth it, and way too fun.

For what it's worth, I have a Logitech Harmony 880. You program it with your specific devices, decide what turns on & in what order.

It retails (or did) for around $200, but the physical quality of Logitech stuff is packing, so maybe not worth the money.

Depending on who manufactures this new remote, you're probably paying for the coolness factor.

I won a universal remote made to look like a ray-gun in a raffle a while back. Have to confess that I haven't ever opened it, let alone tried it.

My friends had the original wand as a gift when it first came out but didn't use it much. I imagine its good if you have lots of remote gadgets but for use with the tv only its slow.

I have a remote for the Cable Box (Adjusts the volume of cable output and channel I am watching) a remote for the TV that adjusts the output volume on the TV, and adjusts the picture output format, and another Remote for my VCR/DVD, I actually like it that way, Since I do alot of recording off TV. People try programming my cable box remote to do everything, and I don't like it :(
