Yo No! - Jon Cu to direct GI Joe 2

I think I got more entertainment out of the new trailer than the entire first movie. It looks much more together than the first movie and I dig the "Renegades"-esque idea. The mountainside scene looked fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing it for some cheesy fun.

That was an exciting trailer! I'm guessing that Duke either a) dies or b) gets hospitalized due to the events depicted in the middle of the trailer.

I'm also disappointed that Snake Eyes' mask is changed, although the change itself doesn't bother me. I liked the old one because it reminded me of the 1985 action figure, what with the mouth and all.

I'm assuming that's what is implied by the explosion. I wonder how they'll deal with Destron and Cobra Commander's absence.

Cobra Commander was in the trailer, standing between the President and Firefly. I'm hoping they don't kill off Scarlett; mayhaps they can leave that door open for the future?

I guess they're using just some generic actor for Cobra Commander then because I'm pretty sure JGL stated himself that he wasn't returning either. The Wikipedia entry for the film also lists no one for Cobra Commander.

Just watched the trailer and it looks like a lot of fun. I thought the first one was a fun, goofy OTT action movie, and this one looks even better.

Holy Shit! That is James FUCKING Carville behind the president in the presidential address scene right after Lady Jaye walks up the stairs in the smoking hot red dress.

James FUCKING Carville!

And is that Helix on the cliff face with Snake Eyes in the yellow/black?

Looks better than the first one, that is for sure.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but that actually looked pretty damned fun and exciting.

It's good to see a proper looking Cobra Commander, and I like the inclusion of more of the old school vehicles (the motorcycle with Gatling gun, the WHALE hovercraft, and in the other clip there was what looked like the Water Moccasin catamaran).

Plus, The Rock, Bruce Willis, and Ray Stevenson are great additions to the cast.

G.I. Joe was always a 4th/5th tier 80's property for me. So I'm just famaliar with it to be interested but not so attached to nitpick it to death. This is why I could enjoy the first one one a few levels.

A friend of mine is very attached and swore he'd never watch the first one. However, a mutual friend and I made him watch it this past weekend in anticipation of the new trailer.

Retaliation looks much better and the simply fact that we have a genuine looking Cobra Commander face plate mask is all kinds of awesome!!!

Palicki looks great as Lady Jaye. Curious what, if any, explanation(throw away line or not) that we get for Storm Shadow's survival. There is a line that the Joe unit has been shut down so it sounds likely that those not killed in the strike are under lock down. I agree that Sienna as Baronness was one of the top 3 things about the first film. If it could work, and there is a part 3, I'd love to have her and Destro back. I do think it's also a nice sign that 5 actors from the first are returning for this film. Gives a tighter sense of continuity between the films.

Bruce Willis has top billing on IMDB so is his part bigger than what we saw in the trailer.

This film is now rising in my anticipation list for summer 2012 films. Dare I say it's rivaling Amazing Spiderman right now.

*Edit: when did a screen grab from the trailer

I agree, this movie looks way better than the first one. I'm gonna chalk Storm Shadow's survival to being impervious to arctic weather or a clone.

Cobra Commander looks bad ass and I hope Destro makes a return as well.

Ecclestone doesn't do sequels and as i think as said earlier in the thread, Sienna called it "GI Joke", so if the characters come back, expect recastings.

as for the Jinx in red comment, no, because the Red Ninjas are Arishikage clan renegades who work for Cobra as revealed in the ARAH comic in about issue 90-odd.

My cartoon knowledge on Joe is full of holes so I could be mistaken but can someone confirm if the imagery of the Cobra banners over the White House is something out of the cartoon? I just feel like it is an homage scene.

Just watched the first one this morning o0n DVD. I just love it. It is a fun mindless roller coaster ride and the next one looks to be the same. I am looking forward to it.
