DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN... 50% of what made the movie any good is gone: namely Rachel Nichols!
More like 90%. Yup, I'm out.

bah, somebody hotter for Lady Jaye. It'll be fine.
Agreed. To the point, it's not just that characters are not returning, it's which characters that are the issue here. To draw the analogy, if you were to create a sequel to 2009's Star Trek, but for no reason Spock and McCoy weren't going to be in the movie, it would be a let down because they are crucial components to the movie. There would probably be less of an impact if say, Chekov was left out of the story and replaced with Arex or something. It's not so much recasting it's the total elimination of entire characters if we believe Rachel's tweet (assuming she's read the script already). Of course they could recast the roles but that doesn't seem like what they're doing at all.
Well, in a real sense, Duke and Snake Eyes really are the heart of the G.I. Joe toylines since '82, IMO. Storm Shadow may even rank above Scarlett in that regard (in the latest line of G.I. Joe toys, Scarlett has been absent since '09 with no planned appearance thus far for '11). If Hasbro is pushing a wish-list of things they want from the movie, that could extend to characters that sell better as toys...Agreed. I always though that Sienna Miller As Baroness was one of the best things in the whole first movie.there's a report in today's Daily Mirror (UK paper for the foreigners) that Sienna Miller is said to be glad she's not coming back for 2, calling 1 'GI Joke' and said she was cast without Stephen Sommers meeting her, which she called 'a mistake' as she said the first thing he said to her was 'you're short'...
I am looking forward of seeing the trailer, too.First footage and the trailer debuts on Monday. I'm kind of interested in this now

Why dont we as the people who go see these movies ever have the say in who's directing?
I refuse to see this merely because you KNOW the Bieber will have a role in it.
Perhaps that's what Cu promised Paramount as a way to guarantee 100 mil at the box office to get the job.
This is the case of a company seeing dollar signs instead of a quality product.
Most of the time they try to balance both, but this case it's all about the money.
Let's not forget, this is the Jon 'Step Up' Chu dude.
Wow. Way to go Paramount! Makes me fear who they'll get to direct the Star Trek sequel.
