Yet again: Dune

^ Yep. That's part of the reason why the budget was cut they simply couldn't justify the costs and I think "Children of Dune" was their most expensive mini-series at the time.

I think GEoD is one of those "Unfilmable" books. In the sense that yes, if you had a budget you could make it, but it would be such a colossal money looser that you could never justify it.

Speaking of which, the Dune Miniseries I saw a few months back. it has not aged well.

Both Dune and Children of Dune were massive successes for Sci-Fi. I think the book's story and pacing scared the suits, and I'm also sure the amount of special effects needed to bring sandworm Leto to life would have brought things way over a reasonable budget.

It's a shame too, because I would have loved to see Harrison finish off the entire series. I'm currently reading God Emperor for the first time. Enjoying it greatly. :techman:

As I understand it, James McAvoy would have returned as Leto if they had gone ahead and made GEOD. ( Well, James McAvoy and a bunch of CGI, technically. :techman:)

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions and broke down the Golden Path for me. As for making GEoD into a movie. I think that's going to be tough. There's very little action, and it consisted a lot of Leto philosophizing. I think if they did a movie, it would have to be a miniseries and they would have to ramp up Siona Atreides role to make her somewhat more of a credible antagonist.
