Yamato sails again

Rii

Rear Admiral
Well, kinda. At 6.6m in length, consisting of 200,000 pieces of LEGO weighing a total of 150kg, the Yamato is the largest LEGO ship ever constructed.

And I thought the LEGO ships I built as a kid were cool. :(

Cool project.

I've always been amazed at these massive Lego builds. Do they have to use what's in the box, or can individual Lego pieces be modified?

Reminds me of the minifig-scale aircraft carrier someone else did. Any clue as to how much money was dropped for bricks for that?

We're going to need a bigger bathtub.

I would never ask them to try though I wonder if it floats.

you can build your own kit at lego.com and have it sent to you, complete with fancy printed instructions, and the cost for the home made kit is on a per piece basis with the cost for each piece being between 5 and 10 cents

^no, what lego needs to do is add in the other parts of the super battleship from the animated Rambo

Yeah, I have three of those in the loft.

I just got a new set today which I plan to use for a new project. It'll be far more humble than the Yamato, I'm afraid... I wonder if the Lego company ever keeps track of amazing talent like this guy? I mean, I'd probably hire him to build some of their professional stuff if he was interested. I'm sure with popular resources like Brickshelf and MOC, they're aware of how many people enjoy building with Legos.

heh, my nephew's middle name is Yamato...and he's less than a year old, so this thread title made me laugh.

You were probably better off not building something that elaborate with Legos as a kid, because I bet there's at least one kid you knew whose first reaction would be to jump on it and destroy it.
