XXXth Olympiad - London

I'm kind of sad the Olympics are over. All these cool sports and activities (Like Track, Handball, Archery, Field Hockey) will all go back into obscurity while the big talk for the next 6 months will be football football football (I mean the American kind, the European kind doesn't get much pub here at all either). You spend 2 weeks learning about these events (And the ability to watch them online helped, but it hindered because there was no commentary) but now it's going back to the "big" sports and fans of those sports shooting the Olympic sports down saying "Thank god the Olympics are over, now we can focus on Football" or some other darn thing. It's a little sad, and since Comcast for some inexplicable reason doesn't get Universal Sports, so much for maybe following this year's ski season. Oh well. At least we have Sochi in 2 years and Rio in 4 but that's a long time away.

Exactly the same here. In fact the opening game was today. That'll be in now until next May.

Well that's it for another 4 years for the summer games at least (in 2014 we'll have the winter games). It doesn't seem like it's been 16 days since the opening ceremony.

So although the IOC doesn't offically recognise a medal table. But using the preferred method of table.

In Gold Medal place, the USA once again tops the podium, in silver medal place China, after topping the podium in Bejing, and in Bronze Medal place, Great Britain.

But well done to all the athletes.

Watching the Olympic closing thing. Always hated The Kinks, but my hasn't Ray Davies' voice gone ? And Elbow - the worlds most over-rated pub band...

Technically the EU has the highest medal count with 293 total and 88 gold medals more than double that of the USA.

So, the Olympics closing ceremony is just a crowd of athletes shimmying to music? Is that it?

And a bunch of sports like beach volleyball and taekwondo vanish back into televisual obscurity for another four years, while the BBC go back to thinking that golf, snooker and bowls are somehow exciting (and cheap) visual spectacles....

So what do you think the odds are of the British Olympic team winning the BBC Sports Persaonlity of the year - team award?

Have Sky not snapped up the Bowls yet?

Somebody will, but I bet it won't be Nicola Adams or Jade Jones - who I'd vote for, especially considering the female-free shortlist last year.

ETA - actually I'd bet good money that Andy Murray will get it this year., though

Think he means the team award.

Personality-wise, it's got to be Mo.

Murray would have won it any other year, but not against Mo.

Ennis will be in the mix as well.

Team award - yep it'll be Team GB. Only other side who would have been in with a chance were the England cricket team for getting to #1 in the world, but against Team GB - no.

Yep as I specified the team award. As for the international award, Bolt anyone?

Yeah - has been since 1960!

Apparently the England cricket team are the current holders, so they definitely wouldn't win it again anyway. Definitely Team GB.

International - yeah, Bolt, obviously IMO.

Fuck, they cut Bohemian Rhapsody off for some fucking kids singing Lennon's fantastically overrated "Imagine"? Piss on that!
