XXXth Olympiad - London

Absolutely speechless!!

This is quite possibly the greatest Olympic track and field team that GB has ever produced!

Track team, Cycling team, Rowing team - awesome.

Really, really hope Ainslie pulls off gold tomorrow!

This is an incredibly historic Olympics, not just because of the GB accomplishments. Today in particular was awe inspiring, Michael Phelps finished his career with an 18th gold medal and 22 medals overall, double that of the number 2 most decorated gold medalist - Larisa Latynina and 4 more than her overall total.

I know people are reluctant to call Phelps the greatest Olympian of all time, but based on his accomplishments in world records, medals and multiple stroke disciplines, he is technically the best.

Regardless, he's the best swimmer who has ever competed.

A Golden day for Great Britain.

But as soon as I heard that the Footy had gone to penalties, I knew the result.

Wish they'd fuck football off out of the Olympics anyway - should have rugby in instead - it's a lot more aligned to being played in the Olympic spirit than football is.

Good God, what a day. :D

I'm looking forward to going to bed tonight, if only to catch my breath again!

2 golds in the morning, another this afternoon, and 3 this evening.

Second greatest day in British Olympic history - only bettered in London 1908!

Andy Murray's turn tomorrow - going for gold in two finals, no less. No pressure now... :D

The wacky thing is it could have been even better if that seat hadn't broken in the boat. I'm certain that without that, they'd have won that race given all the momentum. But it just burnt up too much adrenaline/energy dealing with that mechanical failure.

The 18 year old girl will probably have to carry him through one of them......!

Which is first; the mixed final or the men's? I hope it's the men's first, or he'll be totally knackered and Federer will just blast past him.

It's really harsh to have to play two medal matches in a row. Wow... talk about stamina...

Away from team GB, I was glad Phelps won his final race. Great athletes retiring on a high makes for a great story. And the number of medals that man has is simply unbelievable.

^^ Singles final is at 2pm, mixed doubles final is 4pm - he literally may walk straight from one to the other!

Agree re Phelps - also fitting that he put the US team into an unlose-able position.

Trampoline...get the fuck outta here. I do love the name "Dong Dong" though.

How is Trampoline a sport but Baseball/Softball is not? Trampoline is something you do in your backyard, not something that should be in the Olympics.

Do you typically jump 30+ feet in the air and complete four midair flips before landing on your backyard trampoline?

I agree that baseball has enough of a world following (with leagues and a fanbase on every populated continent except Africa) that it should be a permanent Olympic sport, but that has nothing to do with whether trampolining should be considered an Olympic sport.

Trampolining fits perfectly amidst the existing gymnastics events, and it's a lot easier and less expensive for more nations to field trampoline competitors than it is for them to field an entire baseball team and pay for the necessary facilities and training.

The boys who came second and got silver in the boat thingy was absolutely heartbreaking. I cried my eyes out. It was all too much for me to bare. And the Danes did so wonderfully too. They just refused to give up. The Danish queen was in the audience too. Must have been a total thrill for her. She seems pretty up for it actually. Anyway to see Redgrave pick the two younger athletes up as they couldnt walk after achieving silver...was AMAZING and HEARTBREAKING.

Great for Phelps. And for Guatemala - it just won its first ever medal EVER!
