XBOX 360 vs MP3 player... what the...?

What the sodding fuck?

Yesterday I got round to downloading the spring's system update, and suddenly the Vizion MP3/4 player I've been happily playing through it for three years doesn't register or appear as the portable device when I head for the "music player" blade...

Nor does my phone appear when I try to display pictures from it, as was fine until yesteday

What the cunting fuck is going on here?

(obviously Ive checked that the player, phone and cables work fine everywhere else, and they do both charge off the 360 so they know they're connected...)

Did you have your 360 connected to live when you tried your MP3 player, maybe it needs to redownload the Optional Media Update again.......just a thought.

I did, yes, but even now that it's disconnected it won't recognize them

I'll see if I can redownload that update

Which may take a fucking while, as I have a dodgy ethernet cable, which is *why* I haven't had the 360 online in months...

I've pulled a restore-to-factory-defaults reset on the fucker, and it hasn't restored its ability to notice that there are portable fucking devices fucking plugged in...

Lonemagpie, while profanity is obviously allowed on the board, we prefer it not be in thread titles (or avatars). So I edited the title of this thread. :)

Well if the optional media update does not work its looking like that last update, which incidental stopped all unauthorized USB devices from working on the 360, might be causing the issue.:(

I always have to delete and reinstall that Optional Media Update after every 360 update. So try that.

If I remember right, it's only like 4.6mb so even on a slow connection it shouldn't take long.

Well, I'd suspected that - given how difficult it is to get the thing online with this cable, I dunno how long it'll be before I can try redownloading the optional media update

Well, re-downloading the optional media upate didn't make a difference - it still just cannot see that there's a USB device plugged in. And given that the most recent system update was to do with allowing USB hard drives, I can't believe there isn't a connection somewhere...
