xbox 360 failure rate is currently 54.2%

Seriously, I love my xbox, I really do. I haven't had any problems with it *knock on wood* (watch - when I get home from work, it'll be RROD'd, I guarantee :lol: )

We all know that the 360 suffered major failrates around launch time. Several iterations since and things are supposed to be much better (with the Falcon boards).

But this is just astonishingly, pathetically, embarrassingly bad.

An Xbox 360 is officially more likely to fail than not.

That's just simply ridiculous.


PS3 is 10.6%, Wii is 6.8%

Moreover:

41.2% of 360 owners suffered a second failure AFTER sending it back for repair (this is a muddied statistic, though as the console you get back from MS is rarely, if ever, the console you sent in).
 
I know the 360 has a bad fail rate as i have been on the receiving end of the RROD on more than one occasion, but i have to wonder just how accurate those figures are seeing as the wii is almost at 7%......i thought it was universally known that the Wii is the most reliable console out at present with the PS3 just behind it, so that 6.8% figure seems very high indeed.
 
My Xbox 360 will be celebrating it's 3rd year anniversary with me next month, it's the loudest electronic device ever and I get a 1/4 red ring sometimes when I start but....It's still kicking, I've beaten Grand Theft Auto, Mass Effect, Bioshock and Fallout 3 on the thing and it's heart is still beating. It's the Battlestar Galactica of Xbox 360s, hehe.
 
Remember, on this board it's a privilege and an honor for your 360 to RROD, especially if it's after your warranty and you have to buy another one.
 
No problems with mine so far ... been going strong for more than a year. My friend (who also owns one) has never had issues either.
 
I'm considering buying an elite when I scrape the funds together. I've heard their failure rate is considerably lower - any truth to that?
 
I'm on my third X-Box 360 and it's ready to go. It's very loud. I'm trying to find a 360 with the Jasper chip that is supposed to run cooler.
 
With something like this RROD you cannot take 5,000 readers and make that 30 million+ consoles. The failure rate is not 54% I just don't believe it and I've had 1 failure rate in 3 years though my new 360 is running sweet ;) sounds better too.

However MS has really fucked up and if it wasn't for the RROD then the Wii's lead would be a lot less, they need to fix it for the next generation.

Sony would of kept me if it weren't for MS having better games and exclusive ones at that like Mass Effect. Also X Box Live is a great piece of tech plus M/S customer support was good with me and replaced my console when it broke with a better one rather than trying to fix my old one.

I've become a Wii fan over past several months so SONY seems the odd one out lately with a lot of people.
 
I think my flatmate went through seven or eight returns. All during the first year and a half though, and there's been no trouble since (touch wood!).
 
To be honest, the failure rate is one of the things keeping me away from the 360. I plan to get a Wii regardless, but the PS3 always put me off due to price, a bad track record with Sony products, and a lack of intriguing first-party games. I like the 360 and its library, but I sure as shit don't want to go through the hassle of a RROD, and the odds are pretty high I'd have to deal with it at some point.
 
A poll?! That is such a statistically unsound way to find failure rates.

I also just don't believe that number... it seems unfeasible. Also "fail in one way or another" is VERY wooly.
 
PS1, PS2, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Xbox 360 and PS3 were all pretty unreliable for me. Mostly problems with the optical drives. In fact the optical drives on ALL of those systems have failed for me. The 360 gets a bonus RROD and PS2 had a bonus failed... capacitor(?) that killed the rumble and the ability to plug certain peripherals into the controller port.

Atari 78000, SNES, Genesis, Xbox, Wii were my 'reliable' consoles.

Oh, I guess I forgot NES, which I will call unreliable on account of the 'ya gotta blow in it' connection issues.
