That's...odd. I think "Days of Future Past" would make a lot more sense after The Last Stand. Mutants ruin the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, the world's governments freak out and start clamping down hard on mutants, they build Sentinels to hunt them down, etc.

That would be one way to work in a believable role for Wolverine without fucking up continuity...

The need to put Wolverine in every single X-men movie is laughable.

I'm so glad that furball will never be in an Avengers movie. Thank GOD Marvel doesn't have the X-men movie rights.:rommie:

Avengers is more of an unknown quantity. They should not be trying to make a movie for comic fans, they should be making a movie for the wider audience that is also enjoyable for comic fans. I think they might have bitten off more than they can chew...

I know this was posted a month ago, but...

Future X-men movies will NEVER become as big as The Avengers have been.:rommie:

While it is just speculation so far...it seems an odd way to steer prequel films, unless the plan as has been speculated in the thread and the previous new thread before, establishing the First Class trilogy as a new continuity. For now I'll just be taking this as pure speculation. Also just because they've secured the title registration or whatever. doesn't mean this is being applied to First Class...this could be the direction intended for X4 or a different film.

I'd sooner believe that it's for a possible X4 storyline. Fox keeping options open.
Heck I don't know why Fox just doesn't secure the rights to a number of X-title event names.
They could even resurrect certain players and recast easier by doing Future's Past as part of the story element for X4

^ Agreed. The "story" really jumped out on me when I first encountered it on Bleeding Coo (they sourced AICN as well)l...it doesn't really make sense from what we were introduced to in the first film and what Singer and Vaughn have commented on regarding possible plot directions for a sequel.

I'm sure that when they're done with it any adaptation of "Day of Future Past" will bare as much resemblance to the source material as X2 did to "God Loves, Man Kills."

^^^
That is of course true as well. It'll be an exercise in cherry picking and even then altering what they've selected.

EDIT: I just noticed this is the first films review thread. I thought someone had created a FC2 thread?

Yeah they've handled the franchise really well so far. Running the solo movies in parallel is also a great way to keep the ball bouncing without 3-4 year gaps too.

I will be disappointed if the first class sequel treads on this territory. I think they should bite the bullet and run with X4-6 (new cast if necessary): X4 Marauders Massacre; X5 Horsemen of Apocalypse; X6 Days of Futures Past/Age of Apocalypse or a Cable spin off set in this era.

I don't think that this necessarily means that the movie will be based on the classic story of that name any more than First Class was an adaptation of the comic of that name. It's probably just a title that someone felt lends itself to a prequel/ period movie.

Of course, it's possible that this story could be tailored so as to feature the Patrick Stewart/ Hugh Jackman cast and the James McAvoy/ Michael Fassbender one. But I think that First Class has proven successful enough for them to make a straight sequel without either the need to reinvolve the original cast or to use time-travel to do a 'Star Trek 09' and semi-reboot the timeline. I think that this is just a title, nothing more.

While I'll be surprised if they end up going with the Days of Future Past storyline for the First Class sequel, I will admit that seeing Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen possibly sharing the same frame would be too awesome for words.

Plus, introducing the storyline in the sequel allows the filmmakers a better opportunity to tie this "prequel verse" with the Singer verse. It would also give everyone a chance to see some familiar faces... which I don't think anyone would be adverse to. I'd love to see Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and others again.

Hell, this might be crazy, but perhaps the inclusion of this story could erase X-Men: The Last Stand from continuity? Maybe that's being too optimistic. :D
