X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Just got around to seeing the trailer. I didn't have any specific thoughts about this movie before but now I'm kind of excited about it. Looks pretty awesome and I could tell immediately that it has the Bryan Singer "feel" to it. :techman:

Yep. I think the cast, combined with Singer and Vaughn, this movie is going to be tremendous.
I think it they should put it out next year or even fall instead.

I think it's got a better chance of doing better with Spider-Man, than up against Thor.
I'm just afraid even if it's good, It might get lost in the shuffle of all the other summer films.

Next summer has The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Men In Black III, Star Trek XII, The Amazing Spiderman, Ice Age 4 and to a lesser extent The Bourne Legacy.

Summer 2012 wouldn't be any kinder as far as genre competition is concerned.
Fall '11 would have less "tent pole" fare but the expectations would likely not be what the studio is looking for in order to maintain the franchise I'd think.

It's just going to have to put up or not, kinda like all the other films. The Die is Cast.

Agreed.

"Before he was Wolverine he was in the musical Oklahoma! and nobody knew who he was..."

"Before he was Sebastian Shaw he indirectly started the popular catchphrase "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon"..."

"Before he was Beast he was naked in A Single Man with Colin Firth from The King's Speech..."

You know, it's funny, last night I caught a bit of a great and under-rated UK sitcom called Early Doors from about 10 years ago. It had an early role for James McAvoy. I said to my wife 'You'd never have thought when this came out that he'd be playing Professor X in an X-Men movie, with that weird kid from About a Boy as Beast. Or that Magneto would be played by that guy from the Guinness ad.'

You Americans probably haven't seen Fassbender's Guinness ad but it's a classic:

I had a feeling that McAvoy would go on to bigger and better things after his role as Leto II in "Children of Dune". He was stellar in that movie.

This movie strikes me as pretty well-positioned to be a financial success this summer, if it is any good. It comes out a month after Thor, so plenty of room there. It's only the summer's second comic book movie, so to the extent that genre fatigue sets in at some point, I think that it would more likely affect GL or Cap. None of its genre competitors this summer are guaranteed hits by any means (like TDKR and, perhaps to a somewhat lesser extent, the Avengers movie will be the following summer).

There are a LOT of X-fans out there. Certainly more of a built-in fanbase than any of the other three comic book movies of the summer, though Marvel's tie-in strategy may balance the scales a bit for Thor and Cap, and GL has become DC's flagship title, so it's a more recognizable name than it would have been a few years ago. Anyway, if First Class is a good movie, I wouldn't be surprised to see it do very well.

The decision to make this film a prequel does strike me as a bit odd, but whatever, as long as the movie works on its own terms, I don't see why that would be a huge problem at the box office.

^ Love his Guinness Commercial! There is another one he did when he was very young and in the buff!

I found the other commercial Demotion! Hope it works for you.

The man is a bit cheeky! All the photos coming from his new movie Shame may even upset the PG-13 X-Men folks. If First Class does become a trilogy, we may not see Fassbender do a lot of other comic or action type roles for awhile. He likes to vary it up with art house faire. Although his Burke was the best thing in Jonah Hex and I'd love to see him as the Riddler.

Anyway back to X-Men. I'm getting impatient again. :)

I'm starting to get impatient on finding out about novelization news for these movies...since there is nothing to date I'm guessing "X-Men: First Class", "Captain America:First Avenger" "Thor" and "Green Lantern" aren't getting novelizations. I'm a novelization lover so this is a big disappointment to me. I did see though pre-orders for junior novelizations on Amazons and little kiddie reader books so maybe there's still hope. I'll be pissed if "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is the only big genre film to get a novelization.

If it's any consolation, Joan Vinge is doing a novelization of COWBOYS AND ALIENS.

Admiral, is this another example of how they rushed purely to keep the rights? No novelization, no toy designs yet. I imagine they will have to have some sort of merchandising ready- shirts, posters. It's a summer movie so back to school stationary and back packs, kid stuff you know. Unless they don't want to overdo it like Episode 1 and want to be a mature comic book movie. Even it that is the case, we have to start hearing about this stuff soon indeed. May at the latest.

Do you think they will align with a Fast Food Chain, too? :) I've said it before, so long as I have a Magneto ornament to hang next to Sean Bean on my Christmas tree, I'll be happy!

Why haven't we had another trailer? All those ridiculous percentages and rating and hits that they had in the first 2 weeks after the release are starting to fall.

I'm not really sure what they're mentality is where concerning film merchandise. I think what happened with "X-Men Origins Wolverine" and the fan backlash from that film has made them a little cautious. I'm still expecting a full on media barrage starting near the end of next month. Have no idea when another trailer will come out. I've watched the first one now about a dozen times and love it. I hope a second trailer will show more of the Hellfire Club and the plot. They seemed to have edited the first one to show off action and effects. To "astonish" to borrow a term from Joss Whedon's first issue ;)

Thanks for the link. I wonder what the horse discussed in the following story made of it:

(Apologies for the double post, not least of all that this story is completely irrelevant to X-Men 3 but it was too funny to omit)
