X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

I think the only problem with this by adding Apocay & the Sentienls is that it no longer represents the X-Men's main theme of equality and civil rights. The X-Men aren't superheros, they're freedom fighters. They aren't really supposed to be saving the world, just mankind from itself. They are a version of the Underground Railroad for mutants.

Folks picked up X-Men for the cool characters powers but we stayed reading because we identified with them on a personal level. Many of us knew what it was like to be Rogue. In a school surrounded by people like me but yet I still keep to myself because I fear I'm too different to really be around them. It was impact like that that made Singer's films great. Focusing more on the powers and fights instead on that is what IMO brought down Ratner's film.

This is an excellent point actually. Even X2, which was a superior film to X1, started to loosen its grip on the emotional resonance slightly. Jean's death wasn't as heart-rending as Rogue's almost death in the first movie. X1 had by far the best vibe.

However, I love the Marauder's Massacre so much because it had a lot of emotion. It was only in the Xmen (and New Mutants) part of the Massacre crossover that any of the writers really got to grips with this - the writing in the Xmen was at its darkest between 198 and 213 ish. It was kind of its Empire Strikes Back moment. There was a real sense of hopelessness (the build up from Rachel crumbling due to her post traumatic stress was a big part of it mind you). Several of the team were down and weren't coming back any time soon, The villains scored a pretty good hit and reluctant team members were recruited because they were afraid to be left on their own.

Apocalypse is more of an action villain I agree but he needs to come in as the master of the Four Horsemen just to give Angel his fall from grace and chance for redemption. I would hope that Rogue's difficulties with two personalities (and two suitors) and Shadowcat's imminent demise as she slowly drifts apart coupled with a blossoming romance with the disabled Colossus would add some emotion to the proceedings.

I suppose you could keep Apocalypse in the background and use him as the main villain in X6 as he encourages Sinister to create his next host (Cable). I suppose if Magik is intorduced in X4 she could even be the one who takes Cable to the future accidentally to simplify his origin. Or maybe Apocalypse takes him there and we could get a movie (or spin off) set in the Days of Futures Past or Age of Apocalypse? Sounds a bit ambitious though.

Humans are unsympathetic to things they fear and don't understand. That was the point of the films and the comics. I disagree that they were "too" unsympathetic.

I think the reason they made Kelly and Stryker so unsympathetic (in the comics, Kelly was more sympathetic than the movie version) was because, like I said, we might be able to see things their way and realize that fearing mutants isn't as horrible as the movies say.

Like I said, the whole thing is much more grey than it looks. It's not "perfectly innocent mutants vs racist humans", it's "a small group of mutants try to keep the evil bastard destructive mutants from freaking humans out too much while the defenseless humans have a right to be afraid though there are some over-reactive racist humans".

I should have snapped some pics for you guys but I didn't have a camera on me at the time and my phone is shit at photos; they've been filming here in Oxford the past couple of days. Lots of activity around the Sheldonian Theatre and the Broad Street area in general yesterday. No idea what they're doing, I was just randomly passing by and didn't stop in the rain to look.

Scene from original X-Men to be recreated.

Looks like they are going to reshoot the opening sequence of the first X-Men "shot by shot"- the one where a young Magneto is being dragged away from his parents by Nazi's in the Holocaust. There will be a few noticeable differences, like the young Magneto being played by a different actor, and a "few dramatic twists". However, it's exciting to see how they plan on elaborating on Magneto's origins in this film and how they plan to tie First Class in with the original trilogy, or at least first two films.

Bishop or Cable could come back save Magneto and blast Nazi's with their big fucken plasma rifles! Thus disturbing the timeline. Hyper Viper Beam!

^Hmmmm - Magneto is being dragged away - then Nero's Scimitar arrives and disturbs the timeline?
No, Cyclops. In The Last Stand we were led to believe that the Phoenix killed him, but what actually happened was that she accidentally tore a hole in the fabric of reality and sent Scott through it. He arrived in the 1940s of a separate but similar reality and, driven mad by what happened to Jean in his reality, he began a decades-long plot devoted to saving Jean from the Phoenix, even if it meant destroying the rest of the world.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS: Various sources are pointing the Facebook status update of one Mike Todd Sr. who writes, "I drove Hugh Jackman from X-Men To the Airport this morning. They are filming on Jekyll...Cool guy!" Since it's been known for some time that the production would be filming on Jekyll Island, it's safe to assume Wolverine will make an appearance in the film. Well, somewhat safe. He could've just been visiting, right?

Looks like they be may shoe-horning Wolverine into this after all.

Hugh is most likely scouting for "Wolverine 2" rather than filming any scenes for First Class. He is an Executive Producer on the film and has been consulted several times already and seems to be very hands on the project.
