X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

The costume is fine, but the fuzzy white hat is a little distracting. Did they make Emma a Russian or is she just wearing that because she is in the country?

You're thinking of the so-called "Cossack hat" or papakha. This isn't that, just a fur version of a pillbox hat, a style popular in America in the '60s thanks to Jackie Kennedy.

What looks absurd about it?

Maybe he thinks 60s clothing is ridicious? He should see what some people were wearing in the 70s!
Bring on the crushed velvet!

I think Xavier will be wearing something preppy looking

Singer did say that the characters would be wearing costumes more faithful to the comics of this era so it's not out of the question that we would see Charles with a preppy look, I expect some kind of sweater vest lol.

I have to wonder why Singer waited until now to use the X-Men's array of villains. Would it have really killed him to use Mr Sinister as the second movie's villain (it makes more sense HE'D be the head of Weapon X) or the Hellfire Club? Stryker is really minor compared to them.

Of course, another problem was focusing too much of Wolverine and not enough on Cyclops (a third movie wouldn't have solved it, Cyclops should have been equal to Wolverine in all the movies).

Singer used the characters he wanted to and has explained in the past why others weren't used, go watch the X2 documentaries where Bryan discusses X-Men continuity and how there was so much stuff they wanted to explore and had to focus on a single story and set characters. I'm paraphrasing big time what he said but there's a reason that certain characters haven't shown up yet. I'd like to have seen Sinister too but unless they can think of a story where he makes sense to use then he won't be used. Simple as that.

But like I said, they could have easily used Bolivar Trask as the bad guy of X2 (he even has a mutant child, like Stryker). Or hell, even Graydon Creed would have easily fit in the Stryker role if the tweaked it so that Graydon was the student of Xavier's years ago who wanted to make sure he was not a mutant. Sinister would have worked as well (what with the capture of Scott), since he WAS involved with Weapon X in the comics. They'd just have to make the second movie about Sinister and Scott instead of Wolverine and Stryker, not very difficult.

They could have fit them in, they just didn't.

X2 is great and still the best movie in the series. The main reasons were because of Brian Cox as Stryker and that the scipt was based on a popular storyline, God Loves, Man Kills. It was human against mutant for the first time. Seeing the X-men going up against another mutant big bad after the first movie with Magento would have gotten old.

Well, Sinister isn't a mutant. He's a human who enhanced himself and wants to get rid of humans AND mutants so a 3rd race can replace them all.

If they wanted a human villain, Bolivar Trask and/or Bastion/Nimrod fit the bill pretty well. Or Graydon Creed.

Was X2 based on that Stryker comic story? I think all they did was a Weapon X movie but they replaced Professor Thornton with Stryker (since Stryker was pretty much Thornton's character in the movie).

While there were a few differences, X2 was mostly based on that storyline. The main things they had in common were Stryker using Xavier to kill mutants and the X-men teaming up with Magneto.

I heard Singer wanted to use the Hellfire Club in X3, but after he was kicked off the movie, FOX was determined to have the cure storyline be the focus.
