X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

I'm only going to say this about First Class, it had better be better than Thor.

I love the X-Men, I can't stand Thor. And if Thor has the better movie I'm going to be heartbroken.
I'd wager that for you Thor is going to suck just because of your admitted bias towards the character.

No matter how X-Men is, your bound to like it more despite January Jones.

I hope both are good and I'm really looking forward to THOR!!

Yeah if you already don't like a character...chances are you're not gonna like a movie based on that character. What a weird statement to make.

That's not necessarily true for me.

I'm not a huge Iron Man fan, but I love both of the movies.

I'm not a huge Batman fan, but I love the first two and both of the new ones.

I love the Hulk, but I don't like either of the movies.

And Wolverine is one of my favorite X-Men characters, but I hated Origins.

So that's not really true, I think Thor looks like an amazing movie and I can't wait to see it. Just because I'm not a huge fan of the comics does not mean I won't be a fan of the movies. I haven't seen much in the First Class preview to make me think it'll be as good as Thor. I was simply saying that I'd love for it to be better than Thor since I like the X-Men more.

And as for January Jones, maybe I'll like her more as Emma Frost than I like her as Betty in Mad Men.

I hope they keep it in the '60s for at least one more movie. The '60s are very interesting. You've got the height of the Cold War, the Space Race, the Civil Rights movement (which is very fitting, given the mutants' own problems with acceptance and tolerance). The '70s are kind of off-putting, overall, and the '80s are just boring (and ugly).

Personally, I don't really concern myself that much with what kinds of characters an actor has played in the past. There have been plenty of times where someone has done an amazing job playing a character totally different than the ones they've played in the past.

Of course. That is why they call it acting, after all.

I think a 1970s X-Men movie would be cool too, but FC is set circa 1962. So it wouldn't make a lot of sense to jump ahead 8+ years for the sequel - why waste all that interesting time period and why have to age the actors?

As for an 80s set X-Men, I dread to think how they'd look in leather costumes with batwing jumpers, leg-warmers and jeans with elasticated waists ... Not to mention Xavier in a Michael Bolton-style mullet!

Now that this idea is out there I like the idea of using First Class as a launch pad to do a "period piece" trilogy.

Jump ahead into the 70's, then into the 80's to show the progression of how the revelation of Mutants is impacted society. That would then leave a smaller gap of time before the first X-Men movie. What Charles and Eric are doing on both sides.

The gaps in between in each movie allows plenty of room for novles, comics and flashbacks in other X movies.

New pictures making the rounds and blogs today. This picture should have been the first one released and should be on all the damn posters. It should be a long huge banner going along those long exit walls at the movie theaters, and it makes a damn fine billboard!

Someone post it just so we can study and examine and gawk. :)

Who's the blonde behind Beast in the pic of the characters on the bottom of the last link? What about the girl in the yellow jacket?

That was my first thought, but I couldn't remember for sure if there were any other blondes I might have forgotten. Did she start out as an X-Man in the comics?

No, Mystique was never one of the X-Men. This movie is taking even more liberties with the comics characters than the earlier films did.

^ Actually you're wrong. Mystique was voted into the X-Men by the team it's self on a probationary basis. Nightcrawler asks her to leave because he can't adjust to her being a part of the team. She does leave but returns after M-Day bringing the character Pulse with her.

Also Christopher, we know nothing of Mystique's motivations or role in "First Class" so I think it's an unnecessary statement from you to say that this film is taking more liberties than the other films.

Anyway... love you new avatar JD! I saw a nice little display of the new Song of Ice and Fire reissue with Bean all over it at the bookstore. Yay! This is the first time I don't mind if I accidently roll over the ads here!

But back to X-Men, actually, I have nothing to say at the moment. I heard some thought that picture was bad photoshopped, but I liked it a lot, totally retro like those posters with Monroe, Bogart, Elvis and James Dean at the bar. Sweet.

As suggested before I think we'll start the major marketing push next month. I really hope the first theatrical poster is better than the crap character posters we've got so far.

Is this the right pic?

If so, study and gawk at will.

anyone know what sort of marketing tie-ins we will see? happy meal toys? action figures?
