WTF moments in TOS...

Doesn't everyone have a hat in the shape of his/her own hairstyle?

BTW, I like how intelligent Mr. Spock is searching for "phenomenom."

Can't remember if it was mentioned yet, but the biggest WTF moment of "The Enemy Within" for me was Janice claiming she wouldn't have reported Kirk's attempted rape had another crewman not witnessed it, because, "well, he is the captain."

Not too mention Spock hinting at the end that Janice actually had a liking to being raped by Kirk 2...!

Yes, the good ole' days. As Hank might have said, "Now, wait just a minute there, Bobby. You got the long end of that double standard."

In the original draft, Janice even alluded that she LIKED the "forceful nature" of Kirk2. Which is worse I wonder - Janice liking it or Spock suggesting that she should?

I think the writers were trying to make a point about the power of lust vs love or attraction or whatever, and it came out just as wrong as it could possibly be.

That doesn't happen in the episode.

What happens is that the Evil Kirk makes advances on Rand, and Rand eventually claws at him, runs out of the room, and yells for help; Evil Kirk flees. Immediately thereafter, Good Kirk interviews Rand, and Rand says that she didn't know how to deal with Evil Kirk's advances at first because "he is the Captain".

Rand certainly doesn't try to hide the rape at any point. And she does know how to deal with her commanding officer after certain limits are passed. When Evil Kirk merely verbally harasses her (Or does he? As far as Rand knows, he's just socially awkward but has a good heart and honorable intentions), clawing at him would obviously be grounds for court-martialing Rand. When he tries to kiss and grope at her, clawing is a safe option, and it would be Kirk going to the court. A perfectly sensible arrangement IMHO, not "sexist" in any sense.

Rand says "If it hadn't been... I can understand. I don't want to get you into trouble... I wouldn't have even mentioned it!". It isn't indicated that this would refer to Fisher's interruption. Rather, it seems clear that Rand would have allowed Kirk to proceed to a certain point (nothing wrong with it - that's how one gets kids and humankind goes on), but obviously the point was reached and exceeded, so Rand did "mention it".

Spock does sound as if he were belittling Rand's ordeal at the end of the episode. But then again, Spock always understates.
