WTF?!? "Fringe" Continuity Error

I imagine there was fan backlash at the fact that they tried to bring in a new agent when they were already criminally underusing Astrid by this point.

The time it takes to make a TV episode (typically close to 3 months from concept to airdate) argues strongly against "fan backlash" being the reason for Jessup's abrupt disappearance after only two episodes. It had to be an internal decision. Perhaps the producers decided to take the story in another direction, or perhaps the actress got another gig, or perhaps some network executive decided he didn't like the planned storyline and ordered it killed, or something.

Pity I thought she was ok...

Just finished season 2 and OMG soooooo good, loving this show. Overall I felt season 2 arc episodes were utterly brilliant but the standalone episodes were a little better in season 1 because they didn't have the huge error with 2x11 and also the story told by Walter to Ella episode was annoying for being placed just after a shocking ending to the previous episode making me wait to see what would happen next.

Go season 3 :)

I didn't want to start a new thread but I wondered what happened to Junior Agent Amy Jessup who appeared in the first two episodes of season 2 but then has not been since. The way she was used and the exit of another character who I won't name just incase made me think she was going to be a recurring character.

Pity

I had forgotten about that, it was a rather odd move especially because she was so similar to Olivia.

They don't need another character on the team. It's already perfectly balanced with two guys and two girls. Olivia, Peter, Walter, and Astrid.

Red herring and misdirection by the producers?

She has her own scene near end of a episode where shes looking up files and something with a bible too If I remember right. It just seem odd to stick in a solo scene for her and then dump her, normally cameo characters are seen last with the main group characters then never again if you get my meaning.

They were clearly setting something up with Jessup and her Biblical fixation; as I recall, the pre-season publicity definitely discussed her as a major new member of the ensemble. But evidently something caused them to change direction and drop the character and her story thread. These things happen in TV. You don't have the luxury of getting everything right in advance; you have to figure it out as you go, and sometimes you're stuck having to make abrupt course corrections and abandon threads you'd intended to pursue.
