WTF?!? "Fringe" Continuity Error

Tulin

Vice Admiral

We just watched Fringe 2.11 about the girl who seems possessed by the guy speaking Russian and we noticed Charlie, who was killed several weeks before(along with his evil doppleganger)was in the episode!

Did anybody else see this?

Did we watch the eps out of order?

Was this aired incorrectly?

It was REALLY weird and every time we saw him it pulled us out of the episode to speculate all over again as to exactly WHY he was in it and maybe this is some kind of parallel Fringe world where Charlie was never killed.

Does this come up again?

Weird.

:wtf:

So it wasn't a continuity error, just a failure to clarify to the audience that this was an out-of-sequence episode.

Freaking networks have never understood continuity as it pertains to shows with a continuing arc. Its a miracle they didn't run the LOST finale during sweeps week just to get the numbers...

I could be wrong but when they aired that episode here in the UK they did mention somewhere, maybe the TV Guide description or on screen announcement, that this was an unaired season 1 episode and so to expect to see Charlie.

That is REALLY lame and not something I would expect from these "Lost"/Star Trek people. Maybe it was the network's decision and isn't it Fox?

If so, it's a damned wonder the show is still even on!!!

^ I'd be shocked if it wasn't the network. I think Fringe's showrunners are smarter than that.

Then again, your average fruit fly tends to have more sense than TV network executives, so... ;)

They aired it as a bonus episode to see how the show does on a day other than Thursday. It did quite well but they're keeping it on Thursday as it's the only show they've had in that time slot that's at all competitive compared to past years.

I really liked that episode, too. Very interesting topic.

I wonder if they could've slipped it in earlier in the season and done some altering to make it fake Charlie.

it was announced as a 'special' episode IIRC, by the continuity announcer, but i only found out it was a S1 holdover thanks to Wiki.

Interesting that this episode was filmed after the season one finale episode was filmed. For some reason they held it over for season 2. I read why but I've forgotten the reason. Too lazy to look it up to.

^I think that as with most filmmaking decisions, the reason involved money and logistics. I have a vague impression of reading something about the production team choosing to shoot one second-season episode before they left New York and relocated to Vancouver, getting one last show out of the NYC production crew and getting whatever benefits they could from that. At the time, I assumed the extra episode would be the second-season premiere. I don't understand why they decided to make it just an ordinary weirdness-of-the-week episode instead and then delayed it until it was too late to reconcile it with the ongoing continuity.

So I guess its the "Where No Man Has Gone Before" of Fringe.Just imagine what would have happend when "WNMHGB" turned up in broadcast order if the internet had existed in the 1960s! ;)

I am mid way through this episode and just saw Charlie and was like WTF until I remembered seeing this thread. Really poor by FOX and also the producers for not editing the episode proeprly. Any idea why FOX pulled it from season 1 ?

Something happened with the episode before the series moved from NY to Vancouver, and then the FOX execs probably wanted a different episode aired... I don't really care much for this one anyway.

I didn't want to start a new thread but I wondered what happened to Junior Agent Amy Jessup who appeared in the first two episodes of season 2 but then has not been since. The way she was used and the exit of another character who I won't name just incase made me think she was going to be a recurring character.

Pity

I imagine there was fan backlash at the fact that they tried to bring in a new agent when they were already criminally underusing Astrid by this point.
