Writer's strike ending... will the script get reworked?

Abrams has said there have been things he'd've liked to have changed "on the fly" as filming has commenced but could not do so because the writers were on strike. With that strike coming to an end, what if any changes will there be? What would you like to see added (other than the gratuitous addition of William Shatner)?

Difficult to answer considering we haven't seen the script yet... I guess the only person who could really answer this thread would be Abrams himself!

JJ? Anything to contribute?

JC here ... well, YEAH, now they can ... oh, you said "other than Shatner" ...

...

... nope. I got nothin'. ;)

There may be a couple clunky scenes that need to be reworked, but Orci prepared for the strike, so I'm guessing the single largest benefit of the strike being over is that Abrams can suggest ad libs now.

I think at least some of the stuff Abrams wanted to change will be addressed in post-production reshoots. But that's just my uneducated guess.

Let's hope so...now that the writers have read the many excellent suggestions here at TrekBBS, I'm sure they've been dying to include them, knowing that we fans know what makes a great Trek movie...the strike ending now may be our only hope...

Bring Back The Shat as THE Kirk!

Include the crew of TNG, Voyager, and ENT!

The movie should look just like "The Corbomite Manuver"!

The movie should be about TNG!

The movie should be about Voyager!

The movie should be about ENT!

The movie should be Post Nemesis!

The movie should be about the Romulan War!

JJ should listen to us because Nemesis and Enterprise did so well! :scream: :censored: :brickwall:

Oh...wait...

They didn't.

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

I'm sure that some changes will be made when the strike ends. People almost always make changes on the fly to the scripts of movies.

As far as ad libs go, I don't see why you'd need a writer to include them, by their very nature!

Agreed. Just because they can't make changes to the actual script doesn't mean Abrams couldn't have thrown out a few suggestions to the actors, does it?

I have a feeling he was just trying to make a point with that statement more than anything.

Actually, I think it did mean that.

Any suggestions would probably be considered writing.

Now the actors could have done their OWN adlibs, and (since most of them in this film are probably not WGA members, unlike Abrams) that would be permissible. But Abrams could not have suggested any.

It wouldn't surprise me if they went back and reshot a few scenes that turned out to be awkward, but it seems unlikely there will be any major changes at this stage. It'll be interesting to learn more about the effects of the writer's strike on the movie when we get the DVD with all the "behind-the-scene" nuggets.

I'm sure JJ. with add a few little things, but nothing major, maybe some deleted sceens or post production stuff. I think I read somewhere where he said that as long as the strike was on the only thing that could be done was add libs.

I'm guessing the same as many of you, just some simple re-working of awkward dialogue or a scene or two. I doubt anything of substance will be added in, but who knows?

On a side note, does anyone know if they've done the shooting in Iceland yet?

Does any of this speculation track to anything more substantial than Abrams' remark on the picket line one day that he'd come up with a "great line" on the set and was frustrated that he couldn't include it?

Maybe, in the movie, Spock will travel back in time and avert the strike, thereby enabling a better script, that does not involve Time Travel, to be written.

It could happen!

Well, considering how much I enjoyed The Voyage Home and First Contact, and how much I disliked The Final Frontier and Nemesis which were entirely devoid of time travel, I think I'll happily take my chances with a time travel script. ;)
