Since he was talking about Caitians (LOLCaitians?), I think you were looking for this:

YES. This has been something that bothered me--that the mix on the Titan was so unusual. In Diane Duane's TOS, for instance, that was par for the course.

Yes, but the books are constrained to follow canon. And the 24th-century shows (and all the movies except TMP and to a lesser extent TVH) depicted a Starfleet that was overwhelmingly populated by humans and occasional other humanoids. The novels growing out of that onscreen continuity couldn't just ignore that established fact. Sure, I would've preferred writing in a Trek universe where Starfleet was consistently a multispecies organization as Duane, Vonda McIntyre, and other early novelists depicted it, but that's not the canonical Trek universe as it exists today. Tie-in authors have to work with what we're given.

And for what it's worth, the mix on Titan is not unique; all the Luna-class crews are similarly diverse. And I would assume it's part of a new initiative to increase diversity fleetwide. And there were some ships that had pretty diverse crews even before that initiative -- the da Vinci, for example.

Excalibur has quite a menagerie as well.

What on earth are you talking about? Are you talking about a Star Trek role Playing game?

yes, i believe he is...

Kind of.

In ADB's alternate Star Fleet Universe, the Kzinti species are somewhat different to the Kzin seen in other settings, both biologically and politically.

Their Hegemony is a relatively large and powerful empire (which even has what they refer to as a 'Zone of Influence' in parts of Federation space that once belonged to them, and that they would like to get back...) that is often at war with the likes of the Klingons, Lyrans (a lynx-ish SFU-native species usually allied to the Klingons, who are genetically related to these Kzintis) and formerly Carnivons (a canine species genetically related to both - all three species despise each other intensely - but were slaughtered/exiled long before the main era of the setting)...

...and when they've got nothing else to do, have the odd civil war to see which of the five Pentarchal nobles wants to be the Patriarch!

These Kzintis are portrayed in tabletop games, RPGs, and in various fiction works (including in the Star Fleet Journal I started a thread for here) - and were the basis of the Mirak seen in Starfleet Command 2 on the PC.

No, I'm just saying include Vulcans, Tellarites, Andorians, Edosians, Caitians, Humans, & other races as part of the bridge crew. Don't stick to what past "Pro" authors have done.

Well, just from what I've been reading the past few years, I think your concerns have been addressed already. :)
