Write for Who!

I've got an idea about what I want to do, and where I want to put it in Dr Who canonicity, but can't decide which Doctor to use!

Well if the plot doesn't dictate the Doctor (mine narrows it down a bit) then I'd say go with whichever Doctor you feel most comfortable writing. Might not be your favourite, just the one whose skin you can easily get inside of.

I'm guessing you'd have less competition if you went for Hartnell rather than Tom Baker as well :)

Yeah, I chose Hartnell in the end cos I wanted to use a black & white-era Doctor, and then parts of the story fell into place when I found a decent gap where to shove it continuity-wise.

Written 1100 words so far. :)

Write for Who?

That's right.

I mean the character's name!

Who.

The character I'm going to write my original fanfiction story for.

For Who.

That's what I'm asking!

That's the character's name.

That's who's name?

That's right.

Well, go ahead and tell me!

That's it.

That's who?

Yes.

ARRRRGHH, never mind that. Do you happen to know the name of the band who played at halftime of the Super Bowl? . . .

Yes.

Huh. Funny they'd have a British band at the biggest American sporting event.

No, "Yes, I know." Who was the band.

Yes. You just told me.

Et cetera...

Just to make sure that I didn't read past something, is there anywhere in the announcement that limits how many submissions or limits it to UK only. I've read it 4 times and I"m not seeing it, but I want to be sure I've not missed anything.

I've been looking too. As this is the first time I've seen it advertised I can't comment but I hope there arem't any limitations - I'm rather enjoying writing mine!

I don't think there's any bar on entries from outside the UK. As for multiople entries well there's nothing saying you can or that you can't. I seem to recall from last time that you could submit multiple entries. I doubt they'd turn down another entry, especially given they haven't forbidden it.

Does BF have a forum where question like these can be asked I wonder?

I had a question for them. I emailed them this morning and got a response this afternoon. I had to ask if joint submissions were allowed. They are. So it looks like my friend and I will be entering. :)

2500 does seem short when I think about it but then I've read a few great short stories with fewer words so it can be done.

There is a thread on the Big Finish Forums where these questions are being asked, but they haven't been answered yet.

There is, however, a link to some general feedback and tips based on the entries from the last competition:

That's a handy link, thanks.

My story does have a longer intro than is probably necssary, so will trim it back.

I knew there'd be a lot of Susan stories!

That links very useful, thanks. I'm not registered so can't access the forums but since I'm a UK citizen and am only entering the one story I reckon I'll be ok :)

so they had 1000 stories last time, whittled down to 25...cripes!

I wonder how many they'll be looking for this time? Each CD will have a story from each doctor on it, so minimum 8 obviously, depends how many CDs they plan to produce.

(stop worrying about the competition, Paul, just concentrate on the story :rommie: )

Thus you'd have more of a chance if you pick a Doctor that is least likely to get submissions. Tom Baker stories would no doubt take the majority of the submissions. Paul McGann would likely get a few as well.

No, Colin is freakishly popular!

I'd say Hartnell of Pertwee will get the fewest...but you never know.

Aha. A chance to try writing for one of my favourite fictional characters. Now to come up with something involving the Second Doctor, Jamie, Zoe, and all in 2,500 words or less. Easy, right? :)

Ah, dang it....(So my story with Martha being separated from The Doctor, and battling a salivating tentacled monster is on the back-burner)...:weep:

Still, it sounds like a good contest with a nice word count...

well my first draft is done...unfortunately it's 500 words too long but meh, minor problem

Yeah, to be honest I've trimmed more than that before now. Its actually amazing how much meat you can take off the bones of a story without ruining it...
