Ok, so it's not exactly Steven Moffat requesting scripts, but still...

Big Finish are proud to announce a new series of short-story collections starring the Doctor and his companions. Each CD will feature eight brand-new adventures, read by well-known actors and written by...

... you?

Submissions please!

It doesn't matter whether or not you've been published before, but submissions will only be accepted from people who have never written anything for Big Finish. If your story is chosen, you will work with an editor to get the story ready for publication. You will receive the standard author’s contract and rates of pay. Remember, this is a short story, not a play. It should be no more than 2,500 words in length.

I was really hoping Big Finish would run this comeptition again. I entered the last one which I think was three years ago. I put two stories in.

The Cartographer which was the far better effort but ruined by me not reading the entry criteria in enough detail. Spookily I wrote this story months before Utopia aired...

Realising too late that the above story would be disqualified I managed to submit another Do the trains run on time but I wasn't surprised when this didn't get anywhere.

Anyway, time to get my thinking cap on, and I figured some others here might be interested too. Be great if a few of us could get into this! :)

I've had a great title and a great story idea knocking around for a while now... maybe I'll put them to use here.

I was wondering when Big Finish was going to bring back something like the Short Trips collections they used to do.

"Fantastic!!" Gotta put my thinking cap on. Oooo, maybe I can use that story I've been writing "for fun". I'll have to take a look at the rules later...

Later, schmater. Now I see I can't use that story, as you can only use Doctors 1-8. But that's cool, I'm a big Eight fan, so I'll be using him for sure! :D

Well I actually wrote most of a story in my head at lunch time.

Still undecided which Doctor to use however, its between two of them at the moment. I did start to wonder about which doc would likely generate the least entries (to maximise mu chances) but figure that's a false economy, I need to go with the best Doc for the story at hand...

Hmm... One of the Whotopia editors and I have been kicking around some ideas for a DW short story. Seems like this would be a good reason to get serious about those ideas.

Is this strictly only for Brits, or can us Americans submit stuff too?

Last time it was open to all, no matter the country. Non-Brits aren't specifically ruled out in the link, so maybe that still holds.

Hmm, I sent in a couple of entries for the last competition, I might try again this time.

It might have something to do with the fact that they're going to pay the winners the standard author's rates instead of making it a contest like Strange New Worlds was.

2500 words is a very short short-story. Can anyone link me to some examples of their previous editions so I can get a handle on what it is they tend towards with these shorts?

See the link immediately above your post. :)

It's the darkish-green entries. Tenth one down on the list at the top of the page.

I've got an idea about what I want to do, and where I want to put it in Dr Who canonicity, but can't decide which Doctor to use!

Might do it just to say I did it. Win, lose, the fun is just in saying that you submitted something.
