The second season of Stargate Universe will offer up more of the classic adventure and humor that long-time fans of the Stargate franchise love, according to executive producer Brad Wright. Wright talked about the show’s upcoming year in a new video interview with Collider.com.
“This show is opening up a little in terms of its ability to be a little more of the adventure that the other shows were,” he said. “And with that comes a little bit more of the ability to do humor. Eli has always brought that to the show. It’s just now becoming a little bit broader. Young has actually been quite funny in several episodes in Season Two.

Blindly throwing darts at a wall?

I would prefer they find a tone and stick to it. The light humor of SG-1 and SG-A would be fine but it doesn't have to mimic them perfectly. Since they decided to pull the "stranded in space" trope they need to start giving this something new or interesting to make it work. This isn't the most tread area but it's well known to anyone who watches a regular amount of sci fi.

You are correct about Eli....There is alot of potential to have well written lines of sarcastic comic relief from him. Just a bit here and there will set episodes apart from the BSG "dark syndrome"

I haven't laughed or felt adventuresome yet.

I'm sure it will come later on.
I think it's a must for SGU to climb out of it's self as this nose up "I'm higher than everyone else because I'm edgy and dark"

I hate the series. have stopped watching it.
But I know they can't afford to be high a lofty. Syndication needs 4 season or 100 episodes and if they don't do something fast this show won't ever be worth advertising to other networks as worth syndicating...

Frankly it isn't worth syndicating but despite the enbolden attitude of the TPTB I don't think they're as stupid as Branon Braga and Rick Berman as to do NOTHING untill the 3rd season and maintain the status quo.

At the same time there is no garantee that doing anything now will save the franchise. So many people already don't care about the characters and that's a blow that many shows never recover from.

Well, at 20 episodes a season, syndication needs 5 seasons to reach 100 episodes. But I think the DVD market is more important for serialized shows when it comes to ancillary revenues, no?

For example, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA has seen its complete series package released twice in the U.S. since it ended, but it hasn't been on television since, at least as far as I know.

That has to be chump change! Even assuming that they charge 100 bucks for each season which I hear they don't do anymore.

Syndication rights have to bring in far more than a few hundred thousand dollars. I mean SG-1 is still showing on network TV at night and Atlantis too for the last 2 + years.
Isn't DVD just a little pocket change in comparison?

Still no humor...but you know, I'm not really missing it. I'm liking this season so far.

I guess someone has too.

My understanding is that serialized shows don't do well in syndication, and thus are either syndicated for cheap or aren't syndicated at all, because they discourage casual audiences from being able to tune in and follow them. STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS continue to have successful runs in syndication because they aren't serialized.

STARGATE UNIVERSE, on the other hand, is a heavily serialized program.

As for DVD sales, finding exact figures is difficult, but take a look at THIS chart. It shows that after two weeks of sales, Universal sold 244,056 sets of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: SEASON 4.0, resulting in total revenues of $8,664,713. That's not chump change by any means.

well i got my humor finally with trial and error. Lets hope they build from there.
