Wrestling (AEW, WWE, etc)

Before WWE got sold to TKO & became the Paul "HHH" Levesque era, WWE used to have that many matches on the card as well.

They also had longer matches & filled with far less ads in all their PPV's.

Go ahead, look at the older WM before the TKO era.
e.g. WM 35 had 16 matches in total, 4x of those 16x Matches were on the Pre-Show card

AEW's Match Card Line-Up isn't too crazy, it's just similar to how WWE used to do their Match Card setup.

All the extra Match Time got swapped for more Advertisement time.

<Sarcasm> You got to love how nearly 2/3rd of the PPV time = Advertisement time now. </Sarcasm>

lol when wwe used to have many matches on its ppv line up cards and somewhat longer matches was during the old days from the before tko era via the titan towers saga

Night 2 was definitely a big improvement. Oba/Brock was exactly what it needed to be. Ladder match was very fun - sometimes they can be a bit too contrived, but they managed to keep this one all action without too much setting up spots. Trick/Sami was too short and I don't really care about Balor and his Demon thing. Women's match was Jade's best match and Rhea is great. And the main event exceeded my expectations with Punk entering a fantastic performance.

Still had the same problems a night 1 with all the adeverisements making it feel soulless. And having a billionaire who literally bought his wasy onto the show sitting at the announce desk for one match. Dystopian!

Same. I’m so used to watching wrestling at 1am that any other time just feels wrong to me.

I had assumed it was a late one so thought I’d watch the footy then put it on only to check my phone for team news and see the result - so happy for Sammy and opens up a lot of possibilities

Since WM 43 is in Riyad, Saudi Arabia next year, I don't forsee Sami losing the title until post WM 43.

The Saudi's paid for their new champ, and I'm okay with Sami winning, he deserves it.

Now to have a ≥ 1 Year title reign, that's the hard part.

::Knock on Wood::

Sami needs to continue winning, stay healthy, do his new very busy Media / Press schedule.

Why does it feel that WWE is messing up Oba. He should be a champion already. I think WWE should move the IC and US titles to top tier wrestlers.
WWE has a HUGE Log Jam of Aged 4# guys who need to become champion before they consider any of the younger guys.
There is also the fact that many folks who are in the Main Event / World Champion Scene are in their 40's.
________________________________________________________________________________
- WWE's LogJam of Age 4# Guys -
As of 2026/06-12: 18 of their Pro Wrestlers have their "Clocks Running Out" for "In-Ring time" left in their Career

EX-WWE Guys:
- Sheamus is 48 y/o, if WWE wants one final run, now is the time to capitalize on him before he hits 50

(The World Champion Club)
- CM Punk is 47 y/o, yes he took a decade off, so he has more room on his bump card, but age gets everybody
- Randy Orton is 46 y/o, he doesn't have much time left
- Finn Balor is 44 y/o, he's running out of time, do something with him HHH!
- Damien Priest is 43 y/o, he's also running out of time, he needs a push as well
- Kevin Owens is 42 y/o, assuming he fully recovers from his Neck Surgery, he still has some more years left in him
- Sami Zayn is 41 y/o, he better retain the title up to WM in Saudi Arabia, if he doesn't HHH is a fool to let him miss out on the best chance to push Sami
- Roman Reigns is 41 y/o, so he has about a 9 years left if he takes care of his body
- Drew McIntyre is 41 y/o, he needs to ascend to a few more title runs & become a GSC
- Cody Rhodes is 41 y/o, so he has about a decade left as well, WWE is going to milk him as the "Golden Boy" of WWE & of this generation
- Seth Rollins is 40 y/o, so he has about a decade left if he takes care of his body
- Jey Uso is 40 y/o, either push him up the card, or do something with him
- Gunther is 38 y/o, he's no "Spring Chicken", capitalize on him more

(Those who have some chance of joining the World Champion Club)
- Shinsuke Nakamura is 46 y/o, just let him win a MitB (Money in the Bank) and have a short title run
- LA Knight is 43 y/o, he ain't a 'Spring Chicken', but HHH doesn't favor him for some reason
- Penta is 41 y/o, he also needs a Rocket Strapped to his back.
- Chad Gable is 40 y/o, he better get a Rocket Strapped to his back after the El Grande Americano storyline.
- Jimmy Uso is 40 y/o, he could get pushed if HHH wants him to, but that's up to HHH
- Johnny Gargano is 38 y/o, he needs to get out of his Kayfabe "Funk", use DanHausen to do that

There are a lot of aged talent on the roster. But WWE should remember that it beat WCW by pushing young talent and doing outrageous things.
I would love to see a title reign by LA Knight and Finn Balor, but they need to think of the future and start putting the title on their thirty something guys and push for a lower aged main roster that can do outrageous things again.

Their only major competition is AEW, and they're still winning.

So I don't think they have the incentives to do that.

Right now, they have 6x guys who have never been World Champion to work through along with plenty of guys who are only 1-3x World Champions to work on.

So they're pretty full in the Main Event scene.
