Wrath of Kahn vs first contact:which is better?

First Contact, by a freaking mile. If not several. I wouldn't even call TWOK a good movie, much less would I put it in the same category as FC, which I thought was fantastic despite its villain.

Oh, and for those who say "Waaah, they turned Picard into an action hero", for god's sake, watch the damned TV show. It's not like he beat up Klingon assassins or fought terrorists inside a powered down Enterprise or any other such badassery. OH WAIT.

I agree. I wasn't all that impressed with TWOK. I mean, it's okay, but it's not the film to end all films, the way so many people seem to feel about it.

Kahn but I also don't think FC is the best TNG film. IMO Nemesis was the best TNG film.

Yea I don't understan the hate for Nemesis. OUt of all the TNG films it had the best and only memorable villian. I loved the story, they had the guts to kill some one and not bring them back.

That last part's not really valid, since we don't know what they would have done with a sequel...and they certainly laid the groundwork.

I disagree there was actually a ton cut from the film and that is my only issue and yes why no kill Data?

The plot was a little contrived, and ignored previous continuity. But I still enjoyed watching it, nonetheless.

My biggest problem with TWOK is Khan's explanation for why he's there. Keep in mind that I never saw "The Space Seed" until many many years after I had seen TWOK. The whole, "On Earth, in 1996, I was a prince..." speech always confused the hell out of me and took me out of the film.

Yeah, I never thought about this, but anyone who claims the movie turned Picard into an action hero completely different from the way he was before is ignoring a huge counterpoint to that argument in the existence of the episode "Starship Mine".

You have to look at the action hero thing in context. The TNG writer's bible, like the Phase II writer's bible, envisioned a captain who was older and wiser, and a first officer who took risks and was the action hero. Over time, it became evident that Frakes didn't have the charisma, and Stewart kept pushing to get more action scenes.

no. he mentions it in another line, when recounting the history of his encounter with Kirk.
