Wow...X-Files: I Want To Believe

Scully's son was adopted, he did not die.

As I recall in their pillow talk Mulder simply says "the loss of our son" the implication to me was that the child had passed.
Nah, they're talking about the adoption. Scully was forced to give William up to protect him. She doesn't even know who adopted him or where he is.

By the way, can someone explain the plot to me? I know what happened buy I can't quite figure out why it happened. The Russian snowplow driver and ex-alter boy were apparently husbands. The ex-alter boy gets lung cancer and they somehow end up getting a Russian medical team to come in and start doing (unsuccessful) body swaps on him? And why the heck did they choose women? Just because the two were gay? Putting a man's head on a woman's body would be a little inconspicuous.

I think they were using the bodies as "living life support machines" to keep the guy's head alive and just swapping out bodies as they gave out. Why women? I think it was mentioned that the swim-club was mostly used by women so I guess it was due to a lack of options.

That was more or less my take away. The gender matter less than the blood type and availability of the bodies.
