Poll Would you trade your real life to live in the ST Universe?

I would in a heartbeat. Besides for the threat of alien invasion, and the absence of whales :(... it's a pretty nearly perfect Universe.... pretty close to utopia.
I had this sudden vision of a Literal Genie granting your wish ... and making you into a Borg drone. Or working in the Reman mines. It's all part of the Star Trek universe, after all.

Yeah, in a heartbeat. It'd take time to adjust, but come on. People poopooing the idea of living in a Utopia are the deranged product of not living in a Utopia. Hell, if you didn't like anyone of the Federation's thousands or millions of cultures to live in, it'd probably help you start your own.

Maybe we weren't meant for paradise. Maybe we were meant to fight our way through. Struggle, claw our way up, scratch for every inch of the way. Maybe we can't stroll to the music of the lute. We must march to the sound of drums.

Kinda how I feel. What's the point to living if there's no challenge to it?

Considering 24th century fashion trends?

....I'd have to say no.

Troi is so hot.

No thank you. I love my current life and current reality. Star Trek is an important part of that reality, but as a hobby and entertainment.

If I had to, I'd pick the TOS movie era just because that seemed a little grittier and more realistic. I'd avoid the mid-24th century cult-like Federation society like the plague, unless I was in the frontier somewhere like DS9.

Utopias are always broken and flawed. Just ask Logan 5. $hit never works

I absolutely would. Effective, free healthcare, no poverty, no pollution. I would have so much of the galaxy to explore, so I wouldn't get bored. I could spend time in the holodeck if I ever wanted to revisit the primitive 21 Century.

Exactly. If you miss the 21st century that much, you can recreate it, or live on any number of worlds going through their own. Only you'd have that handy homing beacon to grab for if you ever got sick, or didn't want to die at 60 but 160, like McCoy.

No. Need all my mistakes, my pain. All that stuff. Don't want any World Government that limits my choices.

Yeah.. no... first of all I am a human... and I'd be from Earth but serve in Starfleet. :P

Yeah, thanks, we've all seen Star Trek V. It doesn't mean I'm not going to choose a Federation doctor over the stroke that killed my aunt. She didn't get a chance to "learn from her pain." Some pain is helpful, but as in all things, too much is just that. The history of life has been dealing with too much pain and death. If by the Federation's time, they've brought balance to life, thank God for it.

I absolutely would. Effective, free healthcare

There are places where healthcare is free today, fortunately for me Finland has free healthcare... because that brings me to the reason why Trek future would be interesting, there's most likely a cure for MS (multiple sclerosis) which I unfortunately have.

No, all those big coloured blinking light's, blinking and flashing, flashing and blinking and flashing and blinking and blinking and flashing and blinking an..............................oh wait, there are only four light's, well in that case yes.

I agree completely.

I'd switch over in a heartbeat. Sadly, I think many, many people don't realise how oppressed they are in their 'free' countries they live in right now.

I also wince at those who think Trek's utopian vision would somehow be boring or would 'slow our advancement' which, to me, is laughable. You would literally have a universe of possibilities in front of you. You would have more opportunity, more freedom and thus more chance of fulfilling your potential than you ever would in todays selfish, ignorant & oppressive world.

None of your dreams would have to be forgotten to pay bills, none of your abilities would need to be neglected to keep a roof over your head and none of your desires would be cast aside to put food in your stomach. It would be a wonderfully permissive society.

Sadly, I think many are a product of their time and cannot imagine such freedoms.

Depends on where you live in that universe. Sucks if you were on Deneva or at Wolf 359.

Yes I'd switch to TNG. I live in a country with free healthcare and fairly generous welfare benefits, high paying jobs, and free college. However, the world of TNG has these things for everyone, not just people living in a select group of countries.
