It was a decent reboot but I thought the new Spock was lame and the villain's motives were ill conceived (read: a huge, retarded overreaction-- "Oh boo hoo, my sun went nova and SPOCK ITS ALL YOUR FAULT"). Otherwise I had no real problems with it.

One last TNG movie... maybe featuring some characters from DS9 would have made me way happier though.

Maybe. What I really wish we could have had is a true reboot, with the exact same production as the current movie except with Ronald Moore as the screenwriter. It would have been glorious.

Not really - I didn't mind Nemesis as a film, but I think the actors and characters seemed on their last legs. Unless it decended to VI-style self-parody, I don't think it would have worked. I also think it would be very hard to drum up excitement after the last TNG film failed commercially.

I would have preferred that the last two TNG movies and Voyager & Enterprise hadn't been rather lame, thus putting the entire franchise on life support and causing Paramount to feel that a reboot was necessary. But the truth is, Trek hadn't been very compelling (at least to me) since First Contact and the end of DS9. So while I generally dislike the reboot, I understand the motivations behind it.

Personally I think they could have just gone back to the original characters and told new stories without rebooting the entire franchise, but reboots are all the rage right now in Hollywood, and Hollywood is all about copying what the other guy is doing.

I was thinking today how cool it is to have Kirk and Spock again, in new storylines. I never would have thought I'd see it.

TNG got 7 years, TOS got 3. Time to even up.

Not really.. as much as i liked TNG and DS9 it was clear that the franchise was creatively bankrupt.

Having a reboot wouldn't have worked because while Picard/Patrick Stewart may be a recognized name besides Star Trek it wouldn't be enough to pull in casual viewers.

The name Kirk or Shatner however is instantly recognized by the mainstream and so it was better to place a reboot there so it could attract more casual viewers and make it a financial success.

Nope, I think I have seen enough of TNG and do not long for any more movies with that crew.

I don't thinl Nero's reaction was all that much different from the Kremin captain in the Voyager episode "Year of Hell". Both are unable to accept the death of their people and their wives. Annorax keeps trying to restore the timeline that will allow his wife to exist again and is willing to destroy whole civilisations to do so.

Nero realises that he cannot restore his timeline and his grief becomes twisted into illogical revenge.

this worked well as a reboot but failed as a movie.

I'd much, much rather that Nemesis hadn't been such pure, unadulterated cinematic crap, but it was clear the end of that road had been reached regardless. I'm aware this movie isn't to everyone's taste and that's perfectly okay, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in a Trek universe where little or nothing is pre-defined. It's been far too long since we had that.

TNG went out with a wimper and its good that a line has been drawn under that whole era. Its not good to dwell on such things.

Star Trek was always about Kirk, Spock and the gang, its good to have them back.
