Would you prefer if this new Star Trek show was on a different streaming site, like Netflix or Hulu or Amazon etc?

I have not heard good things about CBS All Access, its library is very limited, it has a ton of commercials, its player is not very good etc. Most user reviews give it a thumbs down. It seems like CBS is trying to take on a couple of giants and they don't have the right tools for the job. CW just made a deal with Netflix to have all its shows stream there and Disney is working with Netflix to stream old and new content.

It would have been way easier if they just put Star Trek on Netflix and made money as a third party content maker, rather then CBS trying to beat Netflix at its own game, where it likely will not win. If CBS All Access fails to be profitable, will this new show get cancelled or will they move it to a better streaming site?

I hope its on Netflix in Canada.

Yes. I'm not purchasing All Access for one show. I'll see the new Trek when I see it, if I see it.

I'd have preferred Netflix or Amazon. But I'll subscribe to CBSAA for it. If CBSAA fails, I'm sure Netflix/Amazon will make a bid for the show if they think it's worthwhile, if not they will likely bid for the licence and produce their own show.

Definitely. I won't be subscribing to anything new to see this- I'll either catch in on the internets or wait for the disks to come out.

I barely know what "a streaming site" is, so I have no grounds for comparison, but I'll figure it
out in time for STAR TREK, regardless of how it works.

I'd definitely prefer if it was on a subscription I already had but since it's not I'm willing to pay the $6 a month extra.

Yes I would prefer it to be on one of those services with Netflix being my top pick. As it is, I will not be watching this show because it is on CBS' service - waste of money as far as I am concerned.

Meh. While I'd certainly prefer it be on one of the sites I already subscribe to, I'll get over it.

Though I wonder, with the new CW/Netflix deal the other day, I wonder if things don't go the way CBS wants to, if they'll just abandon All Access and extend the deal to cover CBS stuff.

I'm not rich, but I'm fine paying six dollars a month for something I want.
But is there any reason to keep this service after the first season of Star Trek is done? A online service cannot survive with one show keeping it afloat. CBS All Access doesn't seem like a worthy competitor to Netflix. I hope this show's fate is not inked to the health of CBS All Access. Netflix has made a lot of moves to increase its library, what is CBS All Access doing to increase the size of its library?

Thing is, you have to start somewhere. Of course All-Access isn't going to compete right away with more established streaming services. The Fox Network didn't compete immediately with more established outlets.

No risk, no reward.

Well except I think streaming is a new ball game. The pace of media technolgy is far faster now then it was when Fox was starting out as a channel and it seems like other companies are willing to work with Netflix rather then fight it, like CBS is. CBS will have to adapt much faster to the new learning curve to be competitive here.

Sure, you can say CBS All Access has to start somewhere, but frankly they have to do more to be competitive and they have to do this quickly. The user reviews for CBS All Access have not been kind: poor library, bad player, badly intergrated commercials, this seems like having to pay 6 bucks a month for something that is aggravating, it seems like something you have to suffer through to watch Star Trek, not an enjoyable service on its own.

At least some of those bad factors have to be changed sooner rather then later, because now Star Trek seems to be the only real appeal of that service and once the first season is done, there is no reason to keep it, IMO.

CBS has done a lot of work with WB in the past, but they couldn't secure streaming rights to the CW shows. CBS All Access seems to have nothing in terms of films, edgy cable shows or children's entertainment, that is pretty bad for a streaming service.

Yes I plan to subscribe to CBSAA in January 2017 and fully expect it to go up at least $1. a month before January. CBS probably is just waiting to announce it until Q4 2016.
What I want is 5.1 channel Dolby Digital AC-3 stream on the new Trek series via the CBS app for the CBSAA subscription on my Apple TV. I hope they update the app so I don't have to feel like watching Dolby 2.0 of a show that will surely be mixed in 7.1 channels if not a Dolby Atmos mix.

I subscribe to Netflix and Amazon Prime so I would definitely love to see it on one of those services. I don't plan on subscribing to CBSAA, but that may change once we get closer to release and I love the promo stuff that starts coming out.
Star Trek is not going to be the only new content they are doing for CBSAA, there's also a The Good Wife spin-off in the works.

It doesn't seem like a smart move to put it on a platform that only Americans can purchase when the property is beloved by so many worldwide. If we had to go streaming, I would've preferred Netflix, even though CBS wouldn't have let it fly.

They couldn't find somewhere on their line-up to get it to syndication and rake in the cash from those rights?

It's been said over and over again (and once on the original press release) that this will be distributed internationally to other foreign networks and streaming services.

If you trick CBS into letting you write novels about the new series before the new series airs, won't CBS have to put you on their comp list?
