No, I wouldn't. I do not like the idea of a sitting president going to film a movie.
If I had President Obama in "The Avengers" it would be in a scene where he is giving Nick Fury his orders to assemble the Avengers.
This. And: movies inevitably date themselves. Watch A New Hope, and dig the 70s haircuts at the Rebel briefing. Watch X2, and observe how the president looks like W. Watch Spider-Man, and see the radioactive spider replaced with a genetically enhanced one.Use a lookalike. Using the actual President, aside from the logistical issues involved and the political stink it would raise, would serve to date the film within a few years.
Surely a lookalike would do the same?
Well, it'd necessarily only be a scene or two. He could go to LA for the usual fundraising day, drop in on an Oval Office set for an hour or two, and be out. And:I'd love to see him do it from a personal choice perspective, but having said that I don't think he actually should. Too much potential for attacks in the polarised world of US politics.
QFT!Sure. If he's willing to do a minor show like Mythbusters (hey I love it, but it's just a little cable show) then why not do a big Hollywood blockbuster movie that will have far more economic impact and awareness?
That's what normal superhero movies do. But this is The Avengers! It wouldn't bother me, but why don't they just do the fake President thing? Just make up a President.
I didn't vote because I don't care one way or the other.
I got nothing against Obama as president (even though I didn't vote for him). So I wouldn't use that as an excuse.
I guess it all boils down to this: Can he ACT?
^ Breaking news: even presidents are allowed occasional leisure time. They don't turn into constantly-working robots upon inauguration.
Saying that it'd be beneath the dignity of the office is a bit silly, imho, but it at least makes sense.![]()
Not to the same degree. There's no real reason to do it. It'd be a big stunt and big distraction and perhaps more of a liability to a sitting President than it'd be worth. Use a generic president and let the cars and clothes date the film.Use a lookalike. Using the actual President, aside from the logistical issues involved and the political stink it would raise, would serve to date the film within a few years.
Surely a lookalike would do the same?
(I don't know why a similar thread of mine was closed two years ago, so let me just DISCLAIM that this thread is not intended to be political. If you don't like the idea because you don't like Obama or his policies, feel free to say so, but no debate as to which policies you agree/disagree with or why, please.)
Simple question: suppose Obama were willing to use a few hours of down time to portray himself in one or two scenes of The Avengers. Would you like to see this? Should Marvel/Whedon make the offer?

Myself, I think it'd be totally awesome. Tony Stark, Cap, the Hulk, Thor, ScarJo, Renner, SLJ's Nick Fury, and Number 44 himself, all in one epic movie? That would be win so pure it might have to be added to the periodic table.
