Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoiler*

In nuWho, we've seen former companions popping and participating in a few eps. Martha and Rose both popped up during season 4 for example.

Now, according to some reports, Capaldi's Doctor will be a lot less nice then his previous incarnations. I could imagine Rose or Martha not getting along with him.

However.... As much as I liked Martha, her appereance during the Sontaran episodes in season 4 didn't do much for me. It all felt a bit forced, a bit gimmicky. For that reason, personally, I don't need to see former companions making cameo's or even participating in a two parter.

But how do the rest of you feel about that?

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

Yes at least to acknowledge its long history, its in its 50th year so surely it can't hurt to at least mention some of the old companions from the classic era and perhaps to include a camao before its too late.

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

I think the odd guest appearance is nice, so long as they're not over-used and they serve the story. School Reunion was a lovely story, for example.

Obviously the show should be looking and moving forwards, so I wouldn't want a whole series of revisiting old companions or even that there has to be a formulaic 'episode featuring a former companion' every season. I think Rose and Donna's stories are pretty much told, for example and arguably all of the companions from the RTD era got a proper send-off in The End of Time.

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

^ School Reunion featured the most beloved companion in the history of the show, so that was an easy one to like.

I wouldn't mind seeing a resolution for Donna, giving her memories back and taking the meta-crisis thing out. Capaldi and Tate could have some epic arguments, she was always able to stand up to the Doctor.

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

While I agree the series should look forward, it would be nice for a single episode to acknowledge the past, perhaps at least a reference to pass companions or similar. I always wondered what happened to Ace (curious about Big Finish's recently announced Gallifrey Intervention)

There is a rumor.
That Janet Felding will return as Tegan, the Fifth Doctor's companion. She posted a photo with Capaldi during filming. Could just be her visiting the set.

Been waiting to see how this pans out. It would be fantastic if it came to pass

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

With season 9 airing in what will be the ten year anniversary of the current series, I think bringing back an RTD era companion for an episode would be a great way to recognize that. Martha and Mickey would be my top choices, since as alien fighting mercenaries they'd be easy to insert into a story. Though I guess Donna probably is more likely since Catherine Tate is higher-profile.

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

At this point, I would rather see a classic Companion return than revisit a more recent one. Tegan & Ace have been mentioned, both good choices. Jamie has also been mentioned from time to time as feasible returnee. We've already seen Sarah Jane reunited with 10 (and 11 on SJA, an episode which also featured Jo Grant). How about Grace Holloway? Or better yet, have McGann return as 8 in a special and have him reunite with her. I read their comic book reunion and that was fun. :)

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

It would be nice to see Jamie meet an apparently Scottish Doctor.

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

i'd love to see Jamie, Ace or Ian again.

There was a time when I thought it would be impossible, because of the Universal/Fox/BBC rights tangles. Yet, it wasn't all that long ago that we finally saw Eighth Doctor movie released on DVD in the states, and got the Night of the Doctor special featuring Eight after all those years.

Now? Who knows? Certainly possible.

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

My vote is for old Jamie (and he would be pretty old now). I'd also vote for a McGann/Grace reunion now that 8 seems to have been fully integrated into the modern series.

Re: Would you like to see former companions popping up?*change of spoi

I too would love to Tegan and Grace again and Ace too for that matter.

The rumour is he successfully got an audition he was looking forward to and may appear in the Christmas special. Would be good if it pans out.

Oh, I would love that. While I often found the character grating, she nevertheless has wormed her way into an unexpected place in my heart. But then, present day-Janet Fielding in the DVD interviews reminds me a lot of a dear friend of mine, so that might be part of it. I also think she got cuter as she gold older.;)

Jamie is definitely someone I'd love to see again. And Zoe for that matter. And just for the weirdness factor, Queen Perpigilliam & King Ycarnos! :D

Ian would make sense since he's currently the headmaster at the school where Clara teaches.

And I've been hoping to see the return of some classic UNIT people for a while now. I imagine Benton being the new Minister for Alien Affairs and Mike Yates running his own private security outfit. This might even lead to some situations where Yates would be nominally working for Benton, reversing their previous rank relationship.

If Martha came back, I can only imagine that Mickey would be all sorts of relieved that he doesn't have to compete with David Tennant's hair any more.

And a more obscure favorite of mine that I'd like to see come back at some point: Isobel Watkins from "The Invasion." (I often imagined her showing up some time as Sarah Jane's editor.)
