Would you like the regular "silent characters" to get more of a role?

Like detmer etc?

I oersonally want to know more about these characters. Of the main cast we have I liked lorca, like mirror georgiou, like saru, like stamets like stamets partner whos name i forgot.

Im not fond of tyler, tilly and burnham i can take or leave.

Anyway i would like to see what detmer and that robot thing can bring, they seem like they have good stories.

Yea, I'd love to learn more about the bridge crew characters.

It's a hard question to answer, precisely because we haven't really had a chance to learn anything about them yet. They could be interesting, and in the abstract I usually like more of an ensemble feeling in my TV shows. On the other hand, maybe the writers haven't done anything with them because they just haven't had any good ideas about how to develop them.

I'm only interested in characters who are part of the story - this is one big advantage Discovery has, not aligning with the 'crew roster' trope that Star Trek is so famous for, and I wouldn't want to see it go down that road. Introduce and use those characters the story requires, and no more. We've had enough superfluous helmsmen and ops officers.

See the problem is we - or at least I - don't really know if they can act. They've mostly been glorified extras, given a line here or there. I think Detmer probably got the most lines, and that was only due to her MU version. I don't want to be in the situation where one of them is "upgraded" to main cast, only to find out that they have all the screen presence of a pile of wet rags.

But if they do have the chops, it would be lovely to throw a B plot in for 1-2 of them next season, as appropriate.

I want to know more about some background characters

Is she a robot?
In the mirror universe she killed the entire bridge crew by opening a window, took command and threatened to do it again if the next bridge crew tried a mutiny. She's fun to be around at parties, though.

IIRC that comic (yeah, i was serious!) also said that she is "not fully human", presumably cyborg enhancements or something like that.

Agreed. I feel like past series - so far - have been better at "fleshing out" the supporting cast, and Discovery needs to explore that a bit in season two and bring their individual story lines into it. Even if it was just one or two characters getting their input.

We got Tilly and Ash and Stamets in S1. Now they should give us a little more on others. They especially need to give us another crew member of a different species to explore. I know we had some minor appearances by non-human crew members, but only Saru really got featured in the cast. Give us a little more Andorian or Tellarite or something...

In general, I'd like to see the bridge crew better developed and for them to get more lines.

To the people who hate Burnham so much, think about it like this: if the show focuses on other characters more, she'll be less of an issue for you.

I sure would. I've been interested in learning about Detmer and Airiam the most. Both are intriguing visually and have potentially great stories to be told about them.

Yeah, if there is the writers have a story that they feel would work with the inclusion of one or more of the bridge characters, I'm ready to watch. But I don't see any burning need to include them any more than they already are. After all, they aren't the equivalent of Chekov or Sulu, or even Travis (Ent). They're not part o the regular cast and with only 13 episodes coming in season 2, there isn't much time to devote to minor characters.

But I am kind of curious about Owesekun, who, it appears, might be the only non-american human on the bridge. She had a few good scenes in that MU episode in which she gets disintegrated. .

But giving them beefed up roles like regular cast even in just an episode or two, would be like devoting episodes to Nurse Chaple or to the Asian female doctor in TNG (can't think of the character's name). .

I don't know about Coutts beyond her limited time on Disco, but Mitich's time on The Expanse is a big enough sample size to know she's good.

Along those lines, I do hope they focus more on Cornwell. Brook is a fantastic actor.

I just like that the background people actually get lines. Its always irked me when extras were at key stations like tactical but Ensign Kim gets to fire the phasers because he's a member of the main cast.

As for the junior bridge officers, it would be good to see them roped in the shenanigans of the main cast, away missions and the like.
