Would you eat Rat if it tasted like Pumpkin Pie?

Many of us have this knee-jerk reaction that eating rat or other rodentia would be unhygienic and prone to make you sick and that it would probably taste disgusting. But, objectively speaking, is it really?

I know a guy with an exotic pet shop. A customer was coming in buying frozen rats en masse several times a week. when my friend asked him why he needed so many he told him he was blending them down to make protein shakes.

I kid you not.

Actually I have a freezer full of mice and rats so it's kinda hard to be squeamish about them but this guy did get banned from the shop and his details circulated to all the other outlets in the area.

Hmm.. sounds kinda discriminatory.

No, rats should taste like meat. Pumpkin-tasting rats are like chips flavored to taste liked fried green tomatoes or sausage gravy.

Did he have a Super Rat-O-Matic '76? "Wow, that's terrific rat!"

The rats weren't certified for human consumption....
Well, yeah... but if a store sells a product to a person, and the product's purpose is made clear, it's kind of that person's own problem if they take the product from the store's premises and use it at home for something that it wasn't intended for, whether that be food, folk remedies, mixed-media artwork, or something else more personal that nobody wants to know about.

Apparently there are certain legal questions about knowingly supplying it for human consumption. :barf:

Makes you wonder what the guy switched to for his shakes now that he could not longer get Rats. I hear you can get your fill of dogs and cats at the pound!

Ah, those pesky rules. I'll just have to keep my mouth shut the next time I go to a pet store. ;)

I can't get my head around the practicalities of actually doing the blending, I mean, all the labour that would go into removing the bones and fur......

Perhaps he was only looking for the "juices" and not the meat.

Jason

Making shakes out of any kind of meat would be a tedious undertaking, which leads me to suspect that the guy was just trolling.

But wasn't he actually buying them with his own money? Also didn't he go to several different places? If he was trolling you do got to give him credit for sticking to character and also his skills as a actor because he has to be subtle enough to make the shop owners think he is really making shakes out of them but not so over-top you know he isn't being serious. Any chance Shia LaBeouf wasn't out doing some new performance art?:)

Jason

I would not eat them from a plate
I would not eat them on a date
I would not eat them with my cats
No way in Hell I’m eatin’ rats

Pumpkin pie is overrated as well.
