Would you choose to live in the Star Trek universe?

Imagine it. You're sitting in a darkened room surfing the various forums on TrekBBS...it's late at night.

A flash of light blinds you for a moment. Once your eyes adjust, and you staring straight at Q who is standing right next to you.

What the fuck?

Yep, it's Q. It's not John de Lancie. You didn't accidentally consume mushrooms or LSD. This is not a drill.

Despite the shock of the moment, Q presents you with a choice:

(Option 1) Drop everything right now. You get 5 minutes to write a note to loved ones. Then, he will transport you to the Star Trek Universe - any place or era of your choosing.

There is a catch. He's not going to make you a starship captain. But, he will give you enough Federation credits to make things comfortable for a time. Instead, it's up to you and your skills to chart a future in the Trek Universe. Oh, and you'll never get to see your loved ones again.

(Option 2) Respectfully say no. He'll wipe your memory of the encounter and life will go on with no knowledge of this moment.

So....what would you do? Stay here? Try your hand in the Star Trek Universe?

Which era? Which location?

At first I went "Yes! I want to live in the Star Trek universe!" But then I thought about it; leaving all my friends and family. I'd miss them. And living in a fantasy world wouldn't compensate for that.

But if I could take my family with me I'd want to live on 24th century earth. From what we saw on the series it looks very nice ...

I must have chosen to stay here because I'm still here posting this on this forum.

So I guess I answered my own question.

Nope. For several reasons:

- It's too treacherous.
- I wouldn't go without my family.

Now if he'd give me a holodeck instead, I'd be happy. Or fix my health issues here.

If he appeared to a younger me say, 17 - 25 years old with no family of close attachments, then maybe. I'd have to think about re-educating myself in preparation for living in the 24th century. How does one get accepted to Starfleet academy with 300 year old transcripts?

If and only if I didn't have my partner in my life, I'd say yes without a thought. The average Federation civilian, or even the poorest and least talented, would enjoy a quality of life and opportunities that even the richest billionaires of the 21st century could never dream of.

Hell yes, and the first thing I'd do is mug Picard and steal the ENTERPRISE-D for myself.

The second thing I'd do is warp over to DS9 and score with Jadzia.

Depends. Is Chakotay ready and waiting for me on the other side?

Being Q, I'd want more details before I got involved.

Depends on the Trek universe you are talking about.
TOS - Enterprise and the 10 movies universe or Abrams' own little universe?

Although i'd hate to leave people behind i would seriously consider going to the 24th century, i would be able to go places and see things i never would have the chance to otherwise. Though of course the future seems a bit of a dangerous place what with the Borg, Dominion, Romulans et cetera.

Of course if ST proves to be true the mid 21st century on Earth won't be much fun either. :p
